I didn't see Suriano walk out to medical forfeit, but everyone is saying he had a noticeable limp. Based on what you saw, do you think he can make a run in 2 weeks or is this going to be a major problem? Thanks.

A severely sprained ankle, no matter the quality of care received, is just not going to heal in 13 days.
25 days? It isn't going to be anywhere near 100%, tape it up, take 4 ibuprofen, warm up with intent and have a strong mind and go get'em.

If it was broken (a rumor I have heard, but NO IDEA if true) a 25 day miracle cure would be needed.

The kid has my prayers for a healthy body for the tourney.

His ankle didn't look heavily wrapped or taped but he did have a good limp. I'd say I'm concerned he'll be at 100% in St. Louis. I really hope I'm wrong.

I was talking to my brother, who was an ER nurse and then transition coordinator for patients, about this yesterday. If it were a break, it depends on the nature of the break. Some would allow participation in 4 weeks or so. Just reporting what he said.

Hopefully Suriano had a similar break to Jordan Burroughs when he won worlds 4 weeks after.

Possible, but a reach IMO.
Generally speaking a break is better than a sprain. The break heals much quicker. Keep in mind, he injured his ankle 2 weeks ago yesterday and NCAAs start next Thursday.
4 weeks is a stretch, 25 days isn't even 4 weeks.

Hoping sprain. With 25 days to rest and heal, the major limitation is dealing with the pain.

One last thing
After seeing Pie's post. Elite athletes do seem to heal a bit differently than mere mortals.

I just watched the video on Flo. The limp is noticeable. I have no idea how good it's going to be by the time NCAA starts, but I'b be surprised to see Nick in the semi-final.

He'll compete and he'll give it everything he's got, but a bum ankle is really difficult to wrestle with.

Yea, that's the big one -- very difficult to get good leverage off a bum-ankle. Impacts your reaction time as well. Given the nature of wrestling, especially how important the 1st Period is, hurting your ankle is about the worst thing you can do as it will turn you into a very ordinary wrestler instantly.

I am certain there will be an update from Spyker soon enough.

But, it won't be a truthful, informed or particularly insightful update. It will, however, contain lots of capital letters, exclamation marks and double-speak, so it can be twisted to other meanings later. Sorry to burst some peoples' bubbles.

Here is video of Nick making his way to the center of the mat. He should be fine.

He was limping quite obviously, not sure he will be able to score a point for us at Nationals.

Which ankle is hurt? The on on his preferred lead leg or preferred trail leg?

Now.....I just gotta say.....it would be just a little weird to go out on the mat, let everyone know ahead of time for a 1 sec match and injury default without at least a little limp, huh?:)
Is it okay if your limp is less severe when you walk off the mat, and you put your full weight on your bad ankle in order to remove your anklets?

Nick's ankle wasn't taped when he limped to the mat

In 12 days for NCAAs, I'm sure the training staff will get him taped up and support that ankle as much as possible.

I'm hoping the kid can gut out the pain and stiffness and somehow at least make AA.

For as solid and consistent as he has been, it would be a shame if he couldn't compete at NCAAs.

He deserves to be a 4x AA.

Well I believe in God, and the only thing that scares me is Nick Suriano.

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

Considering he couldn't put weight on it at OSU and now he could walk out, I am going to be optimistic that another 13 days will see even more improvement and he can give it a shot. If anyone has earned a shot to compete this season, it is that young man.

Just my guesd. With a sprain and post sprain rehab the difference in recovery at 13 days versus 25 days is exponential. I am not saying he is not going to have some pain to overcome, he will. The difference is the pain at 25 days is something that with a certain mindset can be overcome. One of many impressions Nick has made with me is his mental toughness.

I believe he wrestles and does with effectiveness.
