gets less respect in its home state than PSU?
The media in the major cities except for possibly the Lehigh Valley and Scranton love to bash PSU. Pittsburgh is all about Pitt; Philadelphia is mostly about Temple. Harrisburg is of course home to Davey Jones.
Why such in-state dislike?
Kids growing up in Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, etc. dream of playing for their state school. In PA it seems all the kids want to do is look elsewhere.
I guess Rutgers is probably on par but I don't sense the same dislike it is simply a function of their proximity to NYC and being historically less competitive.
I can't imagine a sports columnist or radio station in a major city in some of these other states bashing their state program like PSU experiences.
