I was drinking with some friends up at camp this weekend and we were talking about Penn State recruiting over the years. What was the deal with McCoy, my buddy was sure he was going to Penn St and I had heard different. What was/is the real story with him?

Thx

If you are talking about Lesean McCoy, he was one of the top RBs in the country and had offers from just about every school in the country. PSU backed off due to grades and JVP met with McCoy and his parents around December of his senior year in HS and broke the news to the family that not only would PSU not accept him due to grades, likely no other school would either. The family felt offended by Joe's comments and didn't believe him. A few weeks later his committed to Miami and of course ended up at Milford Academy. He actually transferred out of McDevitt to go to Milford as they promised they would get him eligible and eventually I guess they did.
That was a tough time for McCoy as he suffered a gruesome broken leg midway through his senior year and understandably was concerned if he would play again at such a high level. To Shady's credit, he and McDevitt patched up their differences and his jersey is now in the school's trophy case. He and Ricky Watters, another McD grad, are putting on a clinic for kids at McDevitt is a few weeks.

I googled it, looking for The Real McCoy. Turns out there could be more than one. Who woulda thunk it.
Not sure which one of these here fellers is LeSean, though. The feller on the left looks to be a bit shadier.

Interesting, I didn’t know the above. I knew he had grade issues and that was about it

The obvious answer is that, although shady was good on the field, he didn’t have the character befitting Penn State and Success With Honor.

(Our new member no doubt agrees.)

New member. ID is Folklorespin. First post asks why a player who played at pitt didn’t play at Penn State.

I’m sure it’s nothing.
And you would be correct. It is nothing. I was simply asking a question and we were talking about recruiting. Sorry if I offended anyone with the question.

I wasn’t offended, but dramatic Pitt-related first posts tend to be the calling cards of douchebags with too much time on their hands. Apparently you’re not one so welcome to the board.

The rumors at the time were that he carried on during his official visit, exhibiting none of the character required of a Joe Paterno football player, and got into some run-ins with Michael Robinson and the team leaders. His ego was off the charts, and his character was more like the kids that Miami or Florida State recruited.

Well according to Michael Robinson that run in never happened.

As I remember it Shady and his dad went to Penn State to talk to Joe. Many (me) thought he would commit on that trip. Word was Joe told both that he was not going to accept his commitment. Shady visited Pitt within the week and committed. The rest is history.

I heard Michael Robinson was going to drop hi because he disrespected the Lion in the locker room.
The urban legend is that he stepped on the “S” in the locker room, didn’t show the proper amount of remorse for it and MRob took issue with it. Evidently according to MRob it didn’t happen.

Guessing by that time Joe had his fill of cooked transcripts from Milford.

Correct, Shady attended a Pitt basketball game, attended a party afterwards with many fb players and called DW the next morning and committed to Pitt. During his time there he had no problems, was a fan favorite and was well liked by team mates.
