And YOU gotta luv it....

Melancon struggled and it was a good thing we had that 4th run.

Funny thing. In Pittsburgh, many get frustrated because we can't close the gap on the Cards. I just got a text from a cousin who has lived in the St.Louis area for years and is a Cardinal fan. His text "Damn, we just can't shake you guys". His point is, now matter how much the Cards win, they still have the Bucs on their tail.

Four our of five vs the Dead Fish and the rancid Rockies.

If you are a contender, when you are playing Gerry DiNardo-type teams, you are supposed to make roadkill out of them. Nicely done. Need the sweep tomorrow.

I was at the game too. The Pirate offense fell asleep after the 3-run first inning. The most impressive part of the game for me was Polanco's throws. He has a cannon for an arm.

Pirates OF is as good defensively as it has ever been. Polanco has a great arm but I believe Marte has better accuracy. Polanco did throw that one to home plate about 10 ft off the ground and it was great that the runner gave him so much respect and stayed at 3rd.

Cubs just lost again. Now 6 behind Bucs. Anyone still think they will pass the Pirates Cardinals? :)

Stats quoted in Pittsburgh Paper was that the throw from Polanco the ball left his hand with a 92 MPH velocity.......and he threw a strike from right field.....nailing perhaps the fastest person in NL.

Plus he is hitting now....even lefties......with him, Cutch, Kang, Marte, Ramirez, Alvarez, Cerville they can score some runs as there really is not an easy out in the line up. Alvarez, Polanco, Cutch
and Kang hitting red hot and with the starting pitching that they have been getting they are a tough team to beat. Happ has probably morphed into the their second best pitcher for the last 30 days.

The problem the pirates will have if they do not catch the Red Birds will be playing Giants (Bumgartner) or playing the Cubs (Jake Arietta) you will be against one of the best 3-5 pitchers in the national league for a one game play off, granted the bucs will start Cole if possible, but a one game playoff after playing for 6 months is tough to take if you are the pirates and you have the 2nd best record in baseball.

This will be a problem for the Cardinals, not the Pirates.;)

You are right.....it could be a bigger issue for the Cardinals as their team is loaded....probably best team in baseball but for one game do they have a dominant number 1 pitcher??? They do have excellent 1,2,3,4 pitcher.....great bullpen......good defense and hitting but not a true superstar #1. They are built for the regular season and for 7 game series not necessarily for a 1 game winner take all game.

I really think we're going to catch the Cards. With our football games, and the Bucs on fire, it could be a sweet month of September.

We had no need to worry. nits74 was at the game and his record in games attended is exceptional. He gets credit for the save.
Thanks. I know you don't attend, but this was one you would have enjoyed. They had about ten or so of the guys on the field from the 1960 team during a pre-game ceremony. Also, honored those that had passed on. Real nice ovation from the crowd.

I may go to a game after we lock up the Division. I don't really believe I am a jinx, but I do know every time I go they lose, so I'm not taking any chances. I did read about the 60 team and that would have been a great reason to be there. Well, you done good!

There is more Pittsburgh talk and excitement here than the sPitters do. They just care about those million National Championships they put up at rented Heinz in front of 243 fans in attendance. Anyway...Let's Go Bucs!!!
