number 14 for Nat King..................Three out of four is not bad.
Better news in that the Cards lost. Still 6 games back though. St. Louis continues to set a tough pace for the Bucs and the rest of the league to follow.bucs win

I'm late to the party today. I went to PNC to try to order World Series tickets but they said they're not on sale yet.bucs win
Why do the Pirates continue to look at washed up older players to try and create "fixes" in their lineup? I now see them linked to Mike Napoli and Shane Victorino. Just once, I'd like to see them take the mentality of we're in it to win it and go and get a big name. If you have to give up a prospect or two, so be it. There has been enough suffering over the past 2 decades and with having to go through St. Louis (who isn't afraid to make a splash)...you'd think the time is right to have a more aggressive mentality in this area.
Why have the talks cooled on a getting another legit arm in the rotation? All I see is talk of bench help, possibly a platooner with Alvarez (or Polanco) and a relief arm.
For once, I'd like to see Huntingdon go balls out with the mentality of winning a title now!
Is anyone else frustrated by this? Thoughts?
That's essentially it in a nutshell. Huntington has always been about drafting well and building thru the farm system. He did it well in Cleveland and he's doing it well in Pittsburgh so far. They also don't have the big money of other franchise ownership, so they are best suited for building within and selectively paying who they need to pay big, long term salaries. e.g. Cutch, Cole, etc... Alvarez hasn't worked out and now they are looking to unload him. He may be a decent to good DH in the American League, who knows ? But they need the salary space to go and take care of other needs the team has now and in the future.I don't think they're interested in giving up legit prospects. That's how they've built their current team, through their farm system. It's what has allowed them to become one of the best teams in baseball. I don't see that changing any time soon.
Roger that, and I agree with the philosophy.I don't think they're interested in giving up legit prospects. That's how they've built their current team, through their farm system. It's what has allowed them to become one of the best teams in baseball. I don't see that changing any time soon.

They have pitching, improving hitting and defense, and Hidden Vigorish, so I say....The Pirates have their 1B and 3B of the future (Josh Bell and Alen Hanson) down on the farm, along with a couple of pitchers (Glasnow and Taillon) that hopefully will replace AJ and Liriano. Acquiring Ramirez was strictly a rental for the rest of this year, as would be getting Napoli or Victorino. I'm on board with hoping to get a little lucky this year with some rentals, but I'm not really expecting a deep playoff run. Next year is the year to start getting excited about this team.

Manny Machado would have been a much better choice!!The Pirates have their 1B and 3B of the future (Josh Bell and Alen Hanson) down on the farm, along with a couple of pitchers (Glasnow and Taillon) that hopefully will replace AJ and Liriano.
