RBY

Also towards the end of the 2nd and 3rd periods he was in on a shot and allowed the Opponent to grab his ankle and hold on. Both times killing about 15-20 seconds before a stalemate.

I actually think the team as a whole has been a bit “off” with the ride and release schedule (for lack of a better term).

Gardner basically cutting a guy (gave little effort to keep him down) with 4 seconds to go almost cost him the bout.

but I firmly believe they will get more in tune as we progress

Not exactly on topic, but it seems like the "formula" for C3 (what they'd love to see--as would any coach) is 3 TDs in the 1st, with a rideout to end the period. Going into the 2nd up 6-2 w/ 1:00RT puts you in great position to work towards any number of bonus points. I say it's a formula, because from what little I can hear from the corner, that's what they ask their guys to do.

I think with RBY he sometimes lets people up a bit late--but sometimes he can get 3 TDs in 20 seconds, so I can't say I can blame him much.

Love the swagger we’re seeing from Roman. He even busted out a bit of “rope-a-dope” towards the end of the 2nd. I can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeve on February 12.

Agreed. You only gain 1 pt per catch and release, so a 6-2 first period is optimal 6-3 less so. I think the tactic demoralizes (watch Brooks' and Nick's last few matches -especially against ranked guys), establishes dominance, and wears the opponent down both physically but more importantly mentally.

I totally agree, that tilts then build the cushion for majors and techs.

If you can do both with regularity, then you become elite like Zain, Nolf & Bo.

Nick and Aaron are doing a pretty damned good job of getting there.

5 TDs to none and he won by 5 points.

IMO, he needs to manage the TD/release strategy a little better. Keeping his ride a bit longer and finishing periods on top can be the difference between a bonus or a decision.
Spot on.

Super-quickness is RBY's God-given, uncoachable natural strength, and lends itself much more to serial takedowns than it does to riding. To date he's been able to make a pretty good living off it. That said, I suspect the staff will do everything it can to make him a better rider, and thus a more complete folkstyle wrestler, during his final two years than he has been during his first two-. For RBY their success, or lack thereof, could mean the difference between B1G/national championship(s) and being a career high-tournament-placer.
