....the last couple years. MM has looked very bad against several wrestlers, but has bounced back to beat them later in the season -- Snyder being a good example. MM was completely dominated in their 1st match up in the tO$U dual, but then completely dominated Snyder at BTs. MM just seemed to have one of those matches against Hartmann....lack of familiarity and tentativeness seemed to work against him in that match-up.

I concur ...

some examples:

2014 Southern Scuffle:
Quaters: J'Den Cox over Morgan, 0-2
3rd Place: J'Den Cox over Morgan, 2-8
2015 Southern Scuffle:
Semis: J'Den Cox over Morgan, 1-2
2015 NCAAs:
Consolation Semis: Morgan over J'Den Cox, 3-1

2011 Southern Scuffle:
5th Place: Scott Shiller over Morgan, 6-11
2014 PSU - Minny Dual:
Morgan over Schiller, 8-4
2015 PSU - Minny Dual:
Morgan over Schiller, 7-4
2015 B1G Tourney:
Morgan over Schiller, 5-4

2015 PSU - Ohio State Dual:
Kyle Snyder over Morgan, 1-6
2015 B1G Tourney:
Finals: Morgan over Kyle Snyder, 4-1

With regards to Hartmann, two things to note. First, I think many of us overlooked Hartmann. He finished 5th at NCAAs last year, while McIntosh finished 7th. To some extent placement at Nationals is a matter of your seed and who you faced. While Hartmann didn't face McIntosh at the 2014 Nationals, he did finish ahead of him. Second, McIntosh is shorter than almost everyone he faces. That's a bit of a challenge. Mac is very good at getting in on a single leg. He has a lot of success when he can elevate the leg, or drive thru it for a double or swing around behind off of the single. Other times when he gets in on a low single, his opponent will attempt to sprawl on him, and Mac will be on his knees, trying to work up or around. As best as I can recall, that happened 3 times against Hartmann. Each time, Hartmann would reach over McIntosh's back, and grab one of McIntosh's ankles, and then get in a scramble. Mac's usually good in a scramble, but I believe it was Hartmann that prevailed in one of those scrambles to get the only TD awarded in their NCAA quarterfinal match.

As you indicated, and my examples show, it's likely that should McIntosh and Hartmann meet again, McIntosh and the coaching staff will have a gameplan to reverse the results. Barring injuries or other unforeseen situations, McIntosh, Cox, Synder, Burak, and Hartmann will be battling for the championship next year. Nye (UVA), Ayala (Princeton), Riddick (Lehigh) and Studebaker (Nebraska) should all be in the mix as well.

Agree with your analysis regarding Hartmann - Mac's big mistake was being too methodical on the TD attempts....instead of "exploding" and "driving up & through" on the TDs. I like his chances if he would have gotten Hartmann pogo-sticking on 1 leg. Mac appeared to get in deep enough, but then he tried to methodically improve his position rather then immediately attempt to drive up and to his feet (e.g., driving Hartmann back & up). As you say, Mac had multiple deep shots but was neutralized via "the over the top ankle grab into scramble" several times....felt like I was watching a heavier version of Mega - Delgado...
