  • Since Travis Wittlake switched to Oklahoma State ......much like my GPS....I needed to recalculate. Here are the updated results.
  • Sleepless night so I thought I would put together my yearly wrestling recruiting rankings. I waited until Hidlay committed because he is a big-time recruit. Last year I used the Flo Big Board rankings with #1 getting 100 pts and dropping from there. This time I used Flo's Weight class rankings with a similar system starting with 50 pts for anyone ranked 1st in their weight class and working downward as such:

1. 50
2. 44
3. 39
4. 35
5. 31
6. 27
7. 24
8. 21
9. 18
10 16
11 14
12 12
13 10

I do know that some will rise and fall after Super 32s and that some #1 are more dominant ( ie. Gable ) but this is what I came up with using this rubric. ONLY Seniors included ENJOY!

UPDATE: Since Super 32 a few PSU and tOSU guys have moved. I just updated for the changes. The biggest jump was Kinner going from #12 to #5. With Wittlake's change of mind .....IT VERY CLOSE NOW. Some may now (most likely WILL ) argue that the PSU class not only may not be the greatest ever.....perhaps not even the best of 2018.

PLAY NICE BOYS :)

Rankings: Individual rankings at weight class and total points:

1. Penn State 2,2,2,3,3,8 ................ ..... .231 Pts.
2. Ohio State 1,1,4,5,7,11,13.................. 214 Pts.
3. North Carolina 3,4,4,7,11 ................. .147 Pts.
4. Michigan 1,1,2 ........................ ..... ... .144 Pts.
6. Minnesota 1,2, 6, 8 ................ .......... .142 Pts.
6. Oklahoma St. 1,2,6..............................122 Pts
7. Iowa St. 1,5,5 .... ......................... ..... .111 Pts
8. N.C. State 1,7,8,11................ ........ ... .109 Pts.
8. Rutgers 4,8,8,9,11 ................ ........ . . .109 Pts.
10. Stanford 3,3 ............... . ...................... 78 Pts.
11. Penn 2,5 .......... ....... ........................ .75 Pts.
12. Missouri 5,7,9 ........... .............. ....... .73 Pts.
13 Lock Haven 5,8,9 ................ ..............70 Pts.
13 Wisconsin 5,8,9 ................ ................70 Pts.
15 S.D. St. 3,7 ................ ........................ 63 Pts.
16 Virginia 7,7,9 ................ ......................62 Pts.
17 Oklahoma 4,7 .................................... 59 Pts.
18. Nebraska 5,6 .....................................58 Pts.
18 NWestern 4,10 ....................................51 Pts.
20 Princeton 1 .........................................50 Pts.
20 Az. State 1 ..........................................50 Pts.
22 Iowa 4,11 ............................................49 Pts.
22 Cornell 5, 9 ..........................................49 Pts.
.....
NOTES: LETS HOPE I DON"T HAVE TO DO THIS AGAIN: Obviously Penn State and Ohio State are clear top two. The next 5 spots are pretty close power-wise. Two schools got multiple ranked guys while others got fewer but have real studs. Not too much difference from 8 through 21. Iowa and Cornell may be at the bottom of the top 21 but they were number 1-2 in my last year's computations. Interesting to compare ENJOY

It looks like you use verbals for PSU and the other schools, you just use the guys that signed yesterday.

Minnesota 1-2-6-8 =142
Still hoping for B. Lee 50=192

I used verbals as per flo. I listed just after Hidlay verballed. Wittlake dec0mmitted so I lowered PSU and raised OSU. It was posted before NLI day so if anyone else changes their mind....I need to change it again. Definitely B. Lee will give someone some big points. Who did I miss for Minnesota?

UPDATE. Apparently I erased a number 1 from Minny but still had the points correct. The reason it was only 112 is I did it before the latest Flo rankings. With Flo's latest Kasper went from #18 - #8 and Thomas went from #12- #6. Of course McKee went from #1- #2. I'll fix that just for you :) Good Luck with Brayton

Wishes come true. That makes for one heck of a recruiting class. With Gable....might be the best class for this year. Big 10 will be quite exciting.. Oh.....I updated for you.

How about some names and weights to go with the numbers?

1. Penn State 2,2,2,3,3,8 ................ ..... .231 Pts.

I took them from Flowrestling rankings. The 2's are RBY (132), Joe Lee (160) and Beard (197). 3's are Teasdale (126) and Seth Nevills (285). Teske is the 8 (120). Enjoy

I've enjoyed your posts.
Appreciate the work you put in Sportfan2017.

How do they stack up as the overall best in the country, regardless of weight? I know we had some slippage with guys moving to #2.

Like to see things quantified. Rankings aren't exact, but they can ballpark wrestlers somewhat, which is helpful.

Thanks!

If you are asking for my honest opinion.....I would say you can make a good argument that either PSU, Ohio State or Minnesota got the best class. PSU and tOSU have higher numbers but Gable is a very possible 4X champ which has to be worth more than the standard #1 ranked wrestler.
