I believe Franklin is the best recruiter in college football. He has been a game changer on the recruiting trail from day one. Due to the sanctions and state of the program, his first few classes were good, not great. Most services ranked Penn State in the top 12-25 in 2016 and 2017. 2018 was the first truly elite recruiting class in well over a decade. If the momentum continues in 2019 and 2020, all of a sudden, we have a team that has a talent level similar to Ohio State, Clemson, etc...
Coaching obviously matters from a motivation and scheme standpoint. It's always fun to see OSU get crushed by Purdue or Iowa once a year, but their worst season since Meyer was head coach is 11 wins. I gotta think a good reason for that is that their team is so much more talented than almost every team on their schedule. Will we be to that point in a few more years?
