I was able to briefly speak with Lavert Hill this evening. I'm tentatively scheduled to speak with him tomorrow afternoon. I'll do everything I can to get a full recap for you all. Whenever we speak, he's great, but getting him on the phone can be difficult at times.
So far, I've heard nothing but good things about his visit this weekend, which is to be expected. I know Hill was hosted by Marcus Allen. The two of them have been friends for awhile now, so that was a good pick by the staff.
Hill was also the only prospect on campus this weekend, which really worked in PSU's favor. He and his family were able to get the full experience. They met with players, academic advisors and basically the entire staff. As you all know, he was also able to take in the hockey game last night.
PSU did literally everything they can to show Hill a good time this weekend. By now, you should be aware that he has a lot of friends going to Michigan State and he has family connections to Michigan, so it's not going to be easy for the staff, but they did a great job at showing the Hill family just how important he is to this program. However, one thing I was informed by contacts is that Hill's family is open to the idea of him choosing his own path, so that could work in PSU's favor.
Another thing to remember is that Hill is a pretty shy guy. Even his family has joked with me in the past about how they can't get his true feelings out of him at times. So, that's made it tough for the coaches to get a good feel for their chances here.
Personally, I still think it's going to be tough for the staff to land another commitment, but I really wanted to stress to you all that the staff pulled out all the stops this weekend. The had him meet with everyone they possibly could. They showed him everything they possibly could, so no matter what happens, it's at no fault to the staff.
