I was able to touch base with Michael Ferns, father of 2016 LB Brendan Ferns this evening.
We spoke about the West Virginia visit last week and, as expected, it went well. It was basically all about academics, which is what I was expecting. He's met with the staff and his brother plays there now, so the only thing he really needed to learn about was petroleum engineering program. Again, all of that went well.
Brendan also decided to put the Texas A&M visit to the side for now. He decided to go to the beach with a friend later in the week instead. He may still take that visit, but I've gotten the impression that getting mom to Penn State - which will be her first time at PSU - is the most important thing at the moment.
I also still believe Penn State is the team to beat following that WVU visit. Brendan and his father have kept all of that to themselves, so that's just my opinion, but I do believe both he and his father want to wrap this all up soon, like possibly in the next few weeks.
He needs to get to PSU before July 1, or that visit will have to wait two weeks until all the coaches return from vacation. I forget the exact days, but I believe the summer dead period this year is something like July 1-14. If not it's like June 30-July 13, something like that.
We'll see what happens, but I've been given the impression that, if West Virginia did surpass Penn State, Brendan would've probably committed to West Virginia by now.
I'll check in with the Ferns family again next week to see if they've made any moves with that PSU visit. I'm looking at June 26-27 as the most probable dates, but they're still undecided.
