I was able to speak with Episcopal cornerback Patrice Rene this evening.
He informed me tonight that Brent Pry visited with him at his school last Thursday and that PSU wants him to take an official visit to PSU this weekend, Dec. 11-13
Rene has already taken officials to both Wisconsin and Boston College. He has another set to North Carolina and will also take one to Rutgers in January, so that basically leaves him with one official visit remaining between Penn State, Pitt, Nebraska and Cal.
As of now, I don't expect him to actually follow through with that visit this weekend, mainly because he really wants to do his research on which school will receive that last official, so I think this will probably drag into January.
I mainly just wanted to pass it on that I have confirmed with Rene that PSU is after him hard right now and he is listening. I still think it's clear that Wisconsin, North Carolina, Boston College and potentially Rutgers are ahead of PSU right now, but if they can secure that official visit down the road, that'll be big for PSU. As we've seen before, one visit can change everything.
To add to that, I also spoke with Lackawanna assistant coach Josh Pardini. He confirmed that Kyzir White is set to take an official visit to Penn State on Jan. 22, which is when all of the committed prospects will be on campus.
Ricky Rahne was in to see him last week and they're now expecting both Ricky Rahne and Bob Shoop to be back at Lackawanna on Wednesday. The contact with West Virginia hasn't been nearly as strong as his contact with PSU in recent months. West Virginia backed off when they thought he was committed, so his relationship with Shoop has grown substantially in recent months and that's evened up the race between the two schools.
I still would pick him to end up at WVU, but it's important to remember that he'll be a summer enrollee, so he has until February to figure this all out. Pardini also informed me that Franklin may come on Wednesday, but he'll likely wait until January, just like he plans to do with the majority of remaining top 2016 targets.
Also, one final note: It appears as if PSU is no longer pursuing Andrew Ford. I was told that they prefer not to have a left handed quarterback. I don't know how legitimate that is, just passing on what I was told.
ADDED: Monday - 10:55 PM
I also spoke with 2016 WR Nate Johnson tonight. I'm set to do a full interview with him tomorrow, so I should have a full update posted Wednesday.
Sam Williams visited with him last week. Williams is a GA but was added to the travel list when Donovan was fired. Josh Gattis also visited with Johnson at his school today.
Johnson has five official visits set already. He told me he doesn't plan to cancel any of his officials, but instead will look to visit Penn State during the week. As of now, it sounds like it'll have to be an unofficial visit, but I'll try to clarify that all tomorrow.
