Now that Herb Hand's move to Auburn is official, I've been reaching out to some recruits that I feel will be impacted by this decision. I don't expect this to have a big impact on the 2016 recruits, but it will impact a few 2017 recruits and Cincinnati offensive lineman Matt Bockhorst is the most evident.
"Well, Coach Hand was my main recruiter and possible position coach, so his departure from Penn State has a huge impact on my recruitment. I had a great relationship with Coach Hand and I was able to get to know him for more than a year now, which was basically when they started recruiting me."
"So, although I'm sure they will do a great job filling his vacancy, PSU definitely drops quite a bit for me, especially since I plan to make a decision soon and won't have ample time to build a relationship with their new hire."
Bockhorst was planning to visit PSU in February, but I don't think that's likely now. He's going to visit Clemson Jan. 30 and I think it's likely that he makes a commitment that weekend. I'll never say never when it comes to recruiting, but I think we can pretty much cross him off the list for 2017.
