I caught up with OT Lucas Niang from New Canaan (Conn.) to get the latest on his recruitment. Right now, Niang holds a dozen offers and says he's far from being able to name his top schools.
He's only visited a few places so far, and he and his parents want him to explore more of his options before narrowing anything down. He's at Boston College again this week with his high school team and is lining up a visit to Oregon soon. He's aiming to visit PSU for the barbecue July 18, but that plan isn't set in stone yet.
Ideally, Niang said, he wants to take all of his official visits and wait to announce until signing day. We talked a little bit about the limited number of scholarships for OL, not just at PSU, but at a lot of schools, and how spots might fill up by then. He said that he's taken that into consideration, but it also doesn't seem to be influencing his decision-making process right now.
He definitely has interest in Penn State, but he's not as vocal about it as some other prospects, especially for someone who got their first offer from PSU. He's just real casual about it all. Miami is one school that he consistently mentions whenever we talk. BC, too, and I think the potential of an Oregon offer excites him. But I truly believe that he's still wide open and wants to see other places before making any moves.
