Looks like SMU is getting everyone from portal, and Boise must be good at picking the 2 and 3 star. The first number is regular recruiting second is transfers.
SMU
2024-- 107-32
2023-- 72-13
2022-- 83-14
2021 -- 51-15

Boise
2024-- 64-90
2023-- 67-85
2022-- 62-61
2021-- 67-102

You do realize the teams Boise is playing also have 2 and 3 stars.

Not Oregon
well, again, Oregon had back-to-back fumbles to lose possession in the first half of the 4th quarter. Both of those fumbles resulted in TDs for Boise. One cost Oregon a FG or TD as it was on Boise's 30 yard line.

Which was 1 game in September that they still lost.
The reality is there's no excuse for losing to SMU or Boise. We have an amazing opportunity and failure can't be tolerated.
The expectation is we win the next 2. Period.
Starting with the first game, just not to get ahead of ourselves.

Absolutely. We have been gifted an easy draw. SMU and Boise are good teams but not on our level. With Beck out that obviously opens the door in the semis but very concerned that we definitely have the short end of the stick in the coaching matchup of Smart vs Franklin.

Georgia without Beck is very difficult. They have a talent advantage over us but it winnable. We're on the best side of the draw.

If Boise didn't have one of the best RB's in college football, or maybe THE best, they'd likely be playing Pitt in Detroit or some other place no one wants to go in December. But after watching PSU's running game destroy Oregon's run defense it's easy to see how a team like this year's Boise has could give Oregon trouble. I believe PSU could give up 150 yards to their RB and still beat them by 2 TD's as long as the turnover battle is even.

I don't know if I would use the term "easy" draw. I'd use the term "easiest" or "favorable". SMU is a good team that deserves their spot after beating teams like Duke, Louisville, FL State, and Pitt. They are not a great team but are a very good team. You'll see. This won't be a walkover, IMHO.

I have read several people who are saying that Carter, Singleton, Allar, Wheatly, and Warren are all better than anyone SMU has seen in those positions. So that will be an interesting adjustment for them.

You are correct. Not easy but the easiest path of any of the teams. However it is termed, Franklin must win this game. No other option.

If we take care of business, we should be getting another shot at OSU or Oregon. It won't and shouldn't be easy but it is there for the taking.

Boise knows what they are and what type of recruit fits them. They want solid athletes who are willing to work hard and are disciplined. A few of these kids blow up into great college players and they ride them. They have the ability to get everything right and upset somebody better than them, but they aren't winning 3 straight against the teams they are going to be facing.

I don't know anything about SMU but they played well this season. We need to take control of these teams like we did against Washington.

Some of the stars are based on who is doing the recruiting.

They want to sell subscriptions. Boise isn't buying many.

So there is grade inflation and deflation

The biggest difference in the game by far:

-Our first was returned to the 1. Essentially a pick 6.
-They had a WR ALMOST fumble near a sideline catch (wasn't reviewed, I don't think it was a fumble, but they never showed it again).
-Gabriel also got stripped by Vilbert once, but the ball didn't go very far and he recovered it before Carter could get there.
-Game ended on Allar's 2nd, a drive that was 2nd and 1 from midfield with 2 minutes to down 8.

we definitely have the short end of the stick in the coaching matchup of Smart vs Franklin.
I hope we get to find out.

Outside of the OSU game I think this was Franklins best season. The team survived a lot of hurdles that would have sunk previous editions. Come from Behind to beat USC on the road. Lost his starter in the first half on the road in a tight game against a big ten west opponent. Tight game late at Minnesota needing one long drive to close it out.

The big ten champ game was a really impressive performance end result aside. Play like that and they’ll beat everyone on our side of the bracket, Dawgs included.

I agree we won games that we would have lost in the past. USC for one and Minny another. Unfortunately the OSU game was the same bad movie playing for the last ten years.

It seems Smart is now the new Saban in terms of pulling out victory from the jaws of defeat. They did lose two games, get it, but when their backs were against the wall and the pressure amped up they delivered. Would love to get a shot at them and better yet beat them but it is a tough matchup for us. Smart is probably the best coach in all of college football.

Hated to start a new thread for these, but discussion worthy.
WRT a positive EPA vs pressure (whatever that is), Jennings may very well be proficient in this area, but I could argue that the defenses in the ACC did not have the quality or quantity of elite defensive pass rushers that exist in the SEC or B1G.

Former PSU DT Jordan Vanden Berg made 2nd team all ACC defensive team. Would he have achieved that same honor against B1G competition?

No disrespect to Jordan intended.

Regarding DA's downfield passing efficiency, his favorable numbers do not surprise me. He has grown and matured as a QB and as a leader. He has good pocket awareness and 'climbs the pocket' much better this year than last.

He has effectively manipulated defenses with our running and short passing game. Then he draws the D into the box and closer to the line of scrimmage, then makes them pay.

I think that DA is still only scratching the surface of his potential.

If there was a time to dust off the WVU game plan, this is it. Jennings isn't Gabriel nor Howard and he doesn't have the OL nor the weapons. Force them to drive the length of the field.

Understand and agree. He made a good move. Perfect example of the portal working properly.

I think that DA is still only scratching the surface of his potential.

The interesting thing with Allar is, even if he is drafted lower, going to a decent team and sitting would be in his best interest, even if it's this year (I don't foresee him returning myself). He could definitely return and improve his draft stock further, but that likely puts him on a top 3 worst roster and that generally hurts career length.
