Passing along a couple notes on Rivals100 DE Ron Johnson of Camden (N.J.) Talking to Johnson briefly this morning, he tells me that he's eying a "possible" visit to Penn State later this month.
Penn State is hoping to get some of its top-end 2016 prospects on campus for the weekend of March 28. Johnson is targeting that date, but said "I'm just not sure if I'm going yet," adding that it depends on whether or not he can lock up a ride from his high school coach.
Johnson had strong initial interest in Penn State when he received his offer in August, and made his first visit since the offer for the game vs. Temple in November. Since then, he said, he's remained in consistent contact with Penn State's coaches, specifically head coach James Franklin, defensive line coach Sean Spencer and his lead recruiter Josh Gattis. Despite the uncertainty about the upcoming visit, Johnson still puts Penn State up there as one of the schools that stand out.
"The coaches keep up with me a lot and we are real close," Johnson said. "They are real cool."
If Johnson makes the trip to PSU later this month, it's likely that four-star teammate Brad Hawkins Jr. will join along.
This weekend they will visit Notre Dame.
In addition to PSU and ND, Ohio State, Rutgers, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin are other schools that Johnson has on his radar.
