Saturday's game against San Diego State and next weekend's game against Army will both be fairly small when it comes to recruiting visitors. As of now, I'm only expecting about 20-25 prospects total this weekend and most are potential walk-ons. That'll likely be the same next weekend.
However, there are two Class of 2017 prospects for this weekend that I wanted to note. The first is Fredericksburg (Va.) Chancellor DE Yetur Matos. So far, the four-star has taken two visits to Penn State. He attended a Junior Day in March and then came back for the Lasch Bash in July. He actually picked up an offer from the staff in June, after working out with the staff at the Old Dominion satellite camp. It's still a bit early to predict anything, but I do get the impression that Penn State is a school he has real interest in, so I'll reach out to him next week to recap this upcoming visit. The other prospect I wanted to note is Holmdel (N.J.) St John Vianney OL Micah Clark. As I've pointed out before, Clark has made it pretty clear that he won't be doing interviews regularly about his recruitment, so he's going to be difficult to follow. I haven't spoken with him yet, but contacts informed me today that he's expected to be here this weekend. I'll reach out to him tomorrow and/or Friday to double-check, but I doubt he gets back to me. That said, PSU contacts have consistently told me that Clark is very interested in PSU, so he's a name to remember. Click Here to watch Clark's highlights.
One other player to note for this weekend is Bethlehem (Pa.) Bethlehem Catholic Ath. Joe Jay Smith. A 2016 prospect, Smith currently holds five offers from Boston College, Buffalo, N.C. State, Ohio and Wake Forest. He's been on campus before and has a lot of interest in PSU, but as of now, I don't believe the staff is going to offer him. However, if they were to miss out on some or most of their top remaining 2016 targets, Smith is definitely one of those under-the-radar players to follow this season. I know the staff really likes him and would love to get him to walk-on, but I doubt that happens. He'll also likely add a few solid offers later this fall. Click Here to watch Smith's highlights.
If I learn of any additional prospects, I'll make a note. I know TE Danny Dalton is expected to come down to State College either this weekend or next. I believe that'll be his first regular season game at PSU. I'm sure a few other committed players will be in attendance.
I'm also expecting a couple of the assistant coaches to go out and watch high school games either this week or next, so once I learn more on when and where they're planning to visit, I'll make a post about that. I do know that Ricky Rahne is expected to head up to Lackawanna C.C. to watch DB Kyzir White soon, so I'll check in with the Lackawanna coaches tomorrow.
