I want to say both are fine. Wife takes in a small purse. Definitely seat cushion is allowed

Both should be ok. I would just take your binoculars and get a bag at the gate. It can be hit or miss with what they let in.

Leave the binoculars in the car, you shouldn't need them. Had tickets for a few years in NEU high row 80's and didn't need them.
