Relax Everyone!!

I’m fine with this same. We doubled what vegas said we would. What’s the problem

For me, it’s the lack of a consistent running game.
Twice we have third and one in the first half and throw an incompletion. Lack of confidence to get a yard?
Three plays inside the 2 yard line and get stopped.

Franklin, as usual, kept it positive in his post game comments but certainly did allude to the issues that you highlight. It is plain for all to see.

To me the best we can do marginally from week to week is to match up better on our blocking assignments. Too often someone has the opportunity to hit two or three guys and whiffs on them all. I'll concede that we may not have the beef in the middle to just blow guys back. It is what it is.

In golf we say commit fully before the shot. It is better to be slightly wrong and committed than it is to be uncommitted and completely whiff on the shot. I think the same applies here. When uncertain pick the guy most likely to make a play and commit to blocking him. Don't be unsure about it. Make sure you make a hit. You may be wrong but one down is better than none.

And enjoy watching a really good Defense. We will be in every game.
Defense is definitely improved, Clifford playing much better than last season, if we can get the running game going, could be very good..

Paterno won a lot of games that way. Granted we had a better run game back then, but not usually a better passing game. You win with your strengths.

Yep, Defense special teams and don’t turn the ball over.

This is what Iowa does; keep it close, apply pressure and wait until the other team makes a mistake. Iowa has had like 248 turnovers. We need zero turnovers.

We are a game closer to being bowl eligible. Going undefeated with our schedule was always next to impossible. I'm surprised and pleased that we're in the position we're currently in.

Good points.
We emphasize to our players that if you make a mistake, make an aggressive mistake. Don’t stand around directing traffic, go find a different colored jersey and smack it!

As I see it, the difference today is our defensive secondary. There is more passing in the modern game. During the Paterno days we invariably played a few guys in the secondary that could be exploited -- weak links so to speak. We had to win by scheming defensively. The 1987 Fiesta Bowl was a prime example of a defensive game plan that succeeded when we did not come close to matching up with players. We exploited the other side's arrogance.

I believe Yurcich is capable of doing the same in short yardage situations on the other side of the ball. In fact I was fine with the 4th down call at the goal line. It was high percentage if the players don't whiff on their blocks. The call convinced me that Yurcich understands we don't have the horses in the middle of our line. They surely will work on it, but expect a tight end pass next time if the situation presents itself again. Maybe a bootleg option.
