Richie, what is going on with Wylie? The coaches talked up his play in practice, got injured, disappeared. I noticed you left him off your two deep. Is his injury that bad or "other" issues?

He's continuing to progress and will get there, but right now he's still got some work to do. Put it like this, there's a reason they are looking for a LB in the portal.

Since his injury never has been disclosed, I say this with some reservation, but dead people have recovered faster than Wylie. I mean, it’s been about nine months since Franklin said that he had a long term injury.

ACL recovery today is likely about 9 months or more to really get back to full contact. And some of them take longer.

So was his injury an ACL? If so, then yes, the recovery is usually around 9 months, but it usually takes longer to regain previous form.

far as I know, Franklin as per usual never specified his injury. That’s why it took someone like Adam Schefter to report that Winston sustained a partially torn ACL the week after the WVU game. God forbid that the reporters who actually cover this team would provide us with that information.

They can't report what they don't know.

Franklin doesn't release details on injuries. Never has and never will. And I wouldn't believe Adam whoever to be accurate. It doesn't really matter to me. Any injury has variability in the recovery time and Franklin will only give updates sometimes when players take a significant step in their recovery such as when they begin to practice which the reporters at the in season Wed short open practice periods report anyway.

The mention of ACL was in your post that dead people recover faster. There are numerous injuries from football that require significant time to recover from.

Couple things
1--that information likely didn't come from anyone at Penn State. Probably came from his camp
2--if any local reporters provided that information they wouldn't be covering the team

You’re probably right about the local media who cover that team actually knowing about but not divulging the nature of injuries for fear of losing access, which means that they’re really not independent reporters, which is sad.

I’m sure that these local media who work for the main PSU football sites like this one know what injuries these players have just by attending practices and talking to people and cultivating sources. If they don’t, then they’re not true journalists.

Despite this, we never have been told by these media the exact injuries that Winston, Rappleyea, Donkoh, Ford, the one running back, Wylie and Fisher sustained this past season. Rather, it took a national ESPN NFL reporter to tell us why Winston was out and when his injury occurred.

I don't think true journalists exist in 2025--anywhere. But we're also discussing sports here--as much as we love it I'm not expecting "true journalism".
Winston (and other players) should control what is shared regarding their health. I don't have a problem with that. I wish Franklin would just say "likely out of the year" instead of long term but what the injury is doesn't matter.
Even someone like Schefter isn't releasing information from a source until he clears it with them--otherwise he wouldn't have sources.
