RIP:Dolores O'Riordan of the Cranberries

Singer Dolores O'Riordan, of the Irish band The Cranberries, has died at age 46.

Her publicist Lindsey Holmes told the Associated Press that O'Riordan died suddenly Monday in London, where she was recording. The cause of death wasn't immediately available.

Holmes says the singer's family is "devastated" by the shocking news.

Formed in Limerick, Ireland, The Cranberries became international stars in the 1990s with hits including "Zombie" and "Linger" that fused the alternative rock edge with poppy tunefulness.

She is survived by her three children, Taylor Baxter, 20, Molly Leigh, 16, and Dakota Rain, 12.

I read the news today, oh boy...

Seriously, I just read about it. Shocking. She had an unusual singing style, but that's what I liked about her. Songs like "Linger" and "Dreams" grabbed me.

R.I.P.

I feel like Zombie is the quintessential rock song of the 90's. That and the music of Nirvana. So thought provoking and sad.

On another front, watched the HBO show about David Bowie that walks through his last projects. Wow....scary weird dude but such a likable guy.

They were definitely one of my favorites from the 90s. They were great when they rocked and when they slowed it down. I always found her to be sad yet powerful, distant yet engaged. Tough to explain exactly, but I guess that is what great art does. Very sad to hear of her passing.

Would like to have seen the David Bowie show.
I'm an Arcade Fire fan so I really liked this video I ran across on youtube...

Always wonder about some artists and what drove them. She was 46 with 3 kids between 12 and 20. Too young, too talented to die. The Cranberries stands out to me particularly because it was the first time that my wife and I said "heck yeah" when our children asked to "turn this song up louder."
I liked some of the songs that received lesser radio time...here's one. First I've seen this, but I find the pictures of her on this video interesting. Serious, deep in thought, reflective. You mystify me Dolores.

Such sad news. I absolutely loved her voice and music, it just reverberated in my ears. She was one of the few singers that I would just close my eyes so there would be no distractions to the beauty of her voice. Now as I close my eyes a flood of wonderful memories fill my head, and I feel both happy and sad, but mostly sad right now.

She was a talented singer. Cause of death?

Just reading up on her in the last day or so, it appears that she had some mental illness (depression, bipolar, anorexic) and had been sexually abused as a girl. I also read that she attempted suicide in the last few years. Hopefully that is not the cause of her death.

Loved her lovely Irish lilt which she refused to mask when singing. A true original and icon from a great era of music.

Lead singer of The Cranberries, Dolores O'Riordan, died of fentanyl poisoning on Monday, source in the London Police Department said.

Authorities found counterfeit fentanyl near the 46-year-old's rocker's bed, a source told the Santa Monica Observer. The source added that no official cause of death has been declared yet, saying that an official cause of death will be announced later with the toxicology report.

The source also added that suicide and a deliberate overdose are suspected.

After splitting from her husband of 20 years in 2014, O'Riordan's life took a hard personal turn. The Irish singer spoke publicly about suicide and her bipolar disorder, which she said she was diagnosed with in 2015 and said she'd struggled with the symptoms for years.

In 2014, she told the Belfast Telegraph that she once tried to take her own life. “I tried to overdose last year... I suppose I am meant to stay here for the kids,” she said at the time.

Man, that sucks.
