RIP Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins

Holy crap. That sucks. He was fantastic. I have tickets to see them in May. It won be the same without him.

I do too. I can’t see them touring without him. Wouldn’t surprise me if they cancel the tour and take inventory of their lives and decide they want to spend time with their families, as they’ve been going non-stop since before Covid.

Dave Grohl called me this morning and asked if I wanted to be his new best friend.....I told him that I will take a pass.

Love the Foo Fighters, Dave has had so much success with Nirvana and FF, he has seen the highs and the lows......

How many band members are in Foo Fighters?

Three in Nirvana with one suicided.

Two (besides grohl already counted) maybe three in FF with one dead by drugs.

Must suck.

There are 5 or so in FF? 3 in Nirvana? Terribly sad.

Sorry to hear.. that had to be rough on his wife and children and will continue for them

Reports this morning say he had heroin, other opiates, and a handful of other drugs in him.
Yeah, 10 different substances found from the toxicology tests and his heart ❤️ was twice the weight of a typical one.

Found in Columbia Hotel dead at age 50

Seems like so many musicians who appear to have the world by the tail are so dissatisfied and end up dead before their time. I recall that during Vietnam War, they wanted to take a band to entertain the troops, but they would not approve any who had members busted for drugs....and not one band qualified!

I have a theory on this. I am a hobby musician and we play a few gigs a year. But when we rehearse or play, when we really hit it and the sound and the groove is right that can be an ecstatic experience. I think a lot of musician start there but then they are touring and playing 2-5 nights a week and it becomes a job, rote and that rewarding jolt of endorphins that comes from a good performance is no longer there and hence the drugs in an effort to recapture that feeling.......

Interesting theory. Always thought that these peoplare the lost soul types.....questioning the why of existence, fixated on he human condition. Searching for answers that aren’t really there. Makes them more susceptible to mind altering drugs.

Add to that they get into the biz as young idealists, dedicated to their craft. Then they have a couple big albums and becomes a huge business with lots of pressure to crank out more. Hundreds of people’s jobs and livelihoods dependent on them. Producers, studio people, the label, roadies, stadium tours. Takes the fun out of it real quick. Like Hotel California....you can check in any time you like but you can never leave.

I agree with your theory. I can't imagine what it takes for Mich to launch into "Give Me Shelter" with the conviction and energy he does after performing it 100,000 times or more. I also feel like it is harder to be an artist as one gets older. I feel like the drugs and booze allow you to strip away learned thinking constructs and just get to your "id" much faster.

Finally, as I get older, I struggle to keep my energy and enthusiasm up. I am much more sarcastic and drive to conclusions faster. I try not to be jaded and angry. As such, I have simply quit listening to sad songs, sad movies, violent movies and the news channels. They just suck the energy out of me. I also have to find a balance in supporting friends going through health issues. I try to escape the old person conversations about what is now wrong with my body. Just depressing but certainly important. Hard to find that balance.
