RIP - Frank Howard

Howard was big and strong. Back in the Era when you had to really hit it right to get it out of the park, opposite field Homer's used to be rare, I remember him hitting a low and away pitch out of the park with one hand on the bat and off balance. Announcers and fans couldn't believe it. He just didn't make solid contact as much as he would have liked.

Without checking, I got Bill Freehan, Tigers, Rico Petrocelli, Sal Bando, FH, Boog Powell, Frank Robinson and possibly Bert Campaneris behind FR.
Don't recognize the stadium.

that's pretty darn good!

on a side note, I got a kick out of Smotz (I think) talking about Jose Altuve. At 5'6" he has a very small strike zone. So as a pitcher tries to pitch in/our and up/down, he doesn't give you the up/down. All you can do it pitch him in and out. That gives him a much larger opportunity than a tall player.

Ok, I went to the Baseball Reference website to check some all star games. It looks like it's the 1969 game at RFK stadium. That's the batting order, right to left. Missing from the picture is Rod Carew, leading off and that's Reggie batting second behind Frank Robinson. Right on all the others. Pitching was Mel Stottlemyre.
Plenty of HoF's in that game.
