RIP Iron Shiek

Dead at age 81. One of the great characters in WWE
when the olympics were in Atlanta we went to the Greco Roman finals and he was there with a whole crowd of other pro wrestlers many of whom started out as GR wrestlers. Had my infant son in front carry and he (Sheik) leaned down and made baby talk and tickled his hands and feet said "you have best seat in house". Was surprising. Used to see whole gaggle of wrestlers including Sheik in downtown Reading walking to breakfast in mornings from Lincoln hotel..

He was a very proud and happy man from the interviews I saw him give.

Extremely successful in his trade. Hulk Hogan pinning him was one of the greatest moments of wrestling.

Working a WWF event one night at the BJC in the late 90s, I walked into an elevator looking down at the floor, and saw the curled up toes on the shoes standing next to me. He and Joe (on a gameday) were probably the only two guys on earth I could recognize from the ankle down.

It’s pretty cool that he was actually a real Iranian. Many of the “foreign” wrestlers are just Americans acting.
