Boom! Write a coincidence
Classy.I remember the Pittsburgh paper had printed a picture of Jack Tatum in scope sights. Madden actually asked Noll to be his defensive coordinator. Shortly there after Noll was named the HC of Pittsburgh. Also Pittsburgh morning host would pig noises when simulating an interview with him.
It wasn’t but it was a different time and there was probably no bigger rivalry Pittsburgh Oakland. The deflated footballs and new turf in Oakland Before you start pointing fingers there was a lot to the rivalry and it made pro footballClassy.
He looks like an unmade bedBOOM!! Great guy....even if he coached the hated Raiders! RIP.
Don’t know who came with that one. Strange way to describe someone. But fit him perfectly. He looks like an unmade bed
And btw he only made it because Pittsburgh had no running backsClassy.
Great but Chuck Noll had the courage to coach through the changes. He was a loud mouth that an impressivator made fun of.10 Years Head Coach, never had a losing record, and retired from coaching.........at age 42!!!
The “Loud Mouth” still has the highest winning percentage in NFL history among coaches who coached 100 or more games. RIP John.Great but Chuck Noll had the courage to coach through the changes. He was a loud mouth that an impressivator made fun of.
Great but guess what Chuck Noll kicked his a**The “Loud Mouth” still has the highest winning percentage in NFL history among coaches who coached 100 or more games. RIP John.
Yep. Franco Harris and Rocky Bleir were both out injured. After losing a hard fought battle, a reporter asked Jack Lambert about the game. His response.....”Gimme a six pack of beer and let’s play another one”.And btw he only made it because Pittsburgh had no running backs
But not in 4 Super Bowls in 6 yearsThe “Loud Mouth” still has the highest winning percentage in NFL history among coaches who coached 100 or more games. RIP John.
Thought it was Gene Atkinson after he tried to decapitate Lynn Swann on a pass that was ten yards over his head. The newspapers ran that pic after the game. Knoll said ‘There is a criminal element in pro football’. And the Raiders sued him for defamation. They had played each other regularly because it got huge ratings but after that game they didn’t play for a long time. The NFL was afraid it would be too violent.I remember the Pittsburgh paper had printed a picture of Jack Tatum in scope sights. Madden actually asked Noll to be his defensive coordinator. NFL Films were awesome. Made me wanna put on the pads and hit someone!😡
When football was football and played by real men. John was bigger than life and a legend.

Raiders/Broncos became one of the fiercest rivalries in pro football in the late 70's and early 80's and was likely exacerbated by Al Davis and Bronco's owner Gerald Phipps hatred of each other. According to a Phipps family member, Davis sent black and silver roses to Phipps wife's funeral. Vintage Al Davis.Raiders and the Jets during the AFL days. That was a rivalry.
You are correct my mistake.Thought it was Gene Atkinson after he tried to decapitate Lynn Swann on a pass that was ten yards over his head. The newspapers ran that pic after the game. Totally agree. It's worth the time. Madden was one of the largest NFL figures in history and excelled at everything he got involved withJust watched the 90 minute Madden special last night that was televised on Fox Christmas afternoon.
Anyone / everyone who is a pro football fan MUST watch the show, extremely well done.
I plan to watch it again early next month.
yet, was so afraid to fly the network bussed him around the nation to make the Monday night games. Actually, he said it was due to claustrophobia. In any case, it is a main reason why he quit coaching. He couldn't be a HC without flying; it is simply too demanding. But he could take a bus or train and make one game per week on his MNF gig.Totally agree. It's worth the time. Madden was one of the largest NFL figures in history and excelled at everything he got involved with
George Atkinson. Those Steeler, Raider, Dolphins battles in the 70s were great. I liked the Steelers, but still remember a lot of those Raiders rosters - Mark Van Eeghen, Jack Tatum, Jim Otto, Ted Hendricks, Cliff Branch, the great Dave Casper, Otis Sistrunk, Snake Stabler, etc. Iconic squads.Thought it was Gene Atkinson after he tried to decapitate Lynn Swann on a pass that was ten yards over his head. That first Raiders SB win in 1977 was memorable for me - it was the first SB I didn’t watch all the way through as a kid. Oakland was blowing the Vikings out and it was snowing like crazy, so we all went out to the local hill to sled in the dark as the top of the hill was lit by a streetlight.Great days as a youth.
