I heard that but I am not sure if it is true or not. Tommy got very political in the 70s and 80s. At one point, Bill Cosby punched him at the Playboy Mansion because Tommy was publicly chiding Cosby for not being more active in civil rights. Imagine that? Getting into a fight about race when at ground zero for sexism and rape.

Dick was far less political. But I wonder if that was just a rumor. Dick sent out a nice message today:

“Tom was not only the loving older brother that everyone would want in their life, he was a one-of-a-kind creative partner,” Dick Smothers said in a statement. “I am forever grateful to have spent a lifetime together with him, on and off stage, for over 60 years. Our relationship was like a good marriage – the longer we were together, the more we loved and respected one another. We were truly blessed.”
