Roadtrip? Remember this if a female does any of the driving. (I am serious.)

With summer here, many of you will be taking to the road with your families. Often a female with be with you and that female will suggest she share some of the driving. Avoid this if at all possible. Say something like "Honey, I just want you to relax and enjoy the trip. I'll do all the driving." If an argument ensues and you must let a female drive, remember these time rules for any trip of more than 2 hours.
1. If a female under the age of 50 drives the car, add 50% to your travel time for every hour she drives.
2. If the female is over 50 years of age, add 100%.
3. If the female is over 75, PLEASE.....don't let the woman behind the wheel.
NOTE: These rules are based upon a just completed round trip from Pittsburgh to Boston and on many, many years of experience.

My wife drives faster than I. She usually bitches about my old guy driving, which I label as safe, defensive driving. I go at least the speed limit, but not excessively over it. With 65 and 70 mph speed limits on interstates, what's the need to go faster? My mortality and that of others is something I think more of as I age. I've got nothing but time, so I don't normally hurry anymore. That's an advantage of being retired.

I'm not talking about anything reckless, although I use a radar detector and typically travel at 80-85 in 65 mile zones, which on most interstates is just keeping up with traffic. No, I'm talking about my wife (love of my life) taking 5 minutes to pull out of the parking spot in a rest area. I'm talking about my late 30's daughter seeing a sign that says "left lane closed ahead, merge right" and moving immediately into the right lane, instead of going to the merge point, while every car for 10 miles behind us passes us on the left. I might add, this is not just a family issue. I have observed it in many, many female drivers over the years. I guess it's just still fresh in my mind because I spent the last 6 days traveling from Pittsburgh to Boston for a wedding.

Holly Hell! 6 days when it should only take 1 day! What kind of women are you driving with??

As the years advance, my wife has become worse in the passenger seat than behind the wheel, but I still do all of the driving. She is continually telling me where to turn or clutching at the door handles, as if certain death is inevitable, every time I cruise to a stop. The woman just can't relax and tries her best to see that I don't either. Thirty two years, so I do my best.

Am i the only one who goes nuts when i am driving on a road trip and the dear wife starts fiddling with the radio and climate controls as she reads one of the 15 magazines she stuffed in her oversized duffle bag she claims is a purse? She is the best wife ever, but i need to hit a liquor store after two hours in the car with her.

That sounds like the worst trip ever. Only thing worse would be sitting through a Broadway Show after the wedding.
Brutal.
My wife alone is fine, but add 2 women, family or not, and you have trouble. Good lord, a rest stop and I'm in and out in 2 minutes tops. Three women and you're talking 20 minutes or more. Then, we get to the car and they need to get their pillows, blankets, sweaters, purses, shoes, etc., organized. Ah, but I love em' all, and I survived.

This is not a problem for me. I do all the driving and the wife likes it that way. Occasionally and when I'm sleepy, I'll ask if she will drive, but usually that answer is "I can if you just can't do it, but I don't want to." Usually I'm no so tired I can't handle it and I wind up finishing the driving.

My brother once drove from Montreal, to Ottawa and then to Philly area with his wife, my mother, her sister and my female cousin.

He said all he did was look straight ahead and drive, and didn't say a word the entire trip. Mostly because he couldn't get a word in edge wise. Several times during the trip they were talking about him, as if he was not even there. Said it was very bizarre.

Hit the liquor store in advance like us "veterans" do!

My wife is a pretty good driver--probably better than me. She often drives on trips--no problem. We've taken 3 big European vacations. The first one she did all the driving (I was navigating as I speak German and she does not). The second one I did almost all the driving, and the third time, we split it up. Works for us.

Same here. I'm the safest driver anywhere, I drive fast when I can or when I need to, but I know how to drive defensively. "The woman just can't relax and tries her best to see that I don't either." Perfect description of my own wife in the passenger seat, it's uncanny.
