Obviously, there will be discussion regarding those left out. I'm going to contribute to that discussion by mentioning The Commodores (with Lionel Richie), Foreigner, and Moody Blues. I'm glad to see Yes, Journey, The Cars, and ELO on the list.

You know Pearl Jam will get in. Otherwise you would have the most sparsely attended induction ceremony in the Hall's history.

Anyone not naming Bad Brains just doesn't know how influential they are. They were really at the forefront of the creation of Hardcore punk music and influenced numerous bands from many genre's. They have just flown under the radar for many years.

My picks

Bad Brains
Joan Baez
Janet Jackson
Pearl Jam
MC5

Are some of these a joke? J. Geils band?! Tupac? Yes?

Relayer - sorry I didn't get a chance to reply to the Bethlehem show but it was awesome. Jon's vocals were incredible and never expected such at his age. Rick's work on And you And I, Heart of the Sunrise and Awaken was the same as when I saw them in 1979. Both the Drummer and Bassist were beyond expectations as well. Lee Pomeroy can play! I like Trevor but honestly, if you put Steve in this band, it's like listening to Yes in the 70s again.

I think you're right. Someone deserving will be left out since I think a lot of this can be political. I expect Tupac will get in. I also expect Janet Jackson to get in. She's deserving.

I agree with you on Tupac, but I'll bet he gets in.

I agree w/ most everyone else on their selections. I understand the need for new nominees, but keep it rock, and just make it deeper. I'd add Thorogood and Southside Johnny to the nominations before any other disco acts.

Also there's an Alzheimer's patient in a facility in TN that played on every 3rd song you heard on the radio at one point. He belongs in as well.

Johnny Maestro, lead singer of the Crests and Brooklyn Bridge, should be in the Rock & Roll HOF. He is not. He has never even been nominated and that is absurd. The Crests were one of the few interracial groups in the early days of Rock n' Roll, and with Johnny on lead, their sound was as sweet as any. Hits like "Sixteen Candles", "Step By Step", and "The Angels Listened In", showcased Maestro's great talent. Emerging from the Doo Wop era, Johnny had a short lived solo career (producing 2 top 40 hits) and then became lead singer of The Brooklyn Bridge in the late 60's. The Bridge had hits like "Blessed Is The Rain", "The Worst That Could Happen" and "Welcome Me Love", in 4 years selling 10 million records. The singing aside, Johnny was a true gentleman, often a rare commodity in the record business. Stars like Dion, Paul Simon and Billy Joel support Johnny's induction. It is long overdue. Johnny died of cancer in 2010 at age 70. Rest In Peace.

Here is a clip of Johnny with the Crests in 1958.

And here he is, live in 2005, singing Welcome Me Love.

Eligible bands from other years are still on the ballot too, right? In any case, these are my five from this year's list:

Depeche Mode
Jane's Addiction
Pearl Jam
The Cars
Journey

The Crests were one of the few interracial groups in the early days of Rock n' Roll...

Two others were from the Pittsburgh area: Del-Vikings ("Come Go with Me" biggest hit) and the Marcels (covered "Blue Moon" but their rendition was the monster hit.)

Of all the Halls of Fame in existence, the R&R is arguably the absolute, bottom-of-the-barrel worst of the lot.

The fact that so many great bands listed have been denied their long overdue recognition for multiple decades is testament to this HOF's worthlessness. It rightfully belongs in Cleveland.

Can believe a band like the Cure can't even get a nomination, especially seeing some of the artists that have gotten in recently(Joan Jett & the Bllackhearts?). The Cure went on tour this year and were still averaging 15-18K in attendance each night. I bet Chaka Khan couldn't sellout the Lions Den in State College.

If there wasn't such a thing as a WWF/WWE Hall of Fame, I'd agree with you. And not because wrestling doesn't deserve a HOF, but because the only requirement for membership is whether you're in good standing with Vince and also whether you're willing to write him a check.

From a 2001 article by Roger Friedman....
"The most frequent criticism of the Hall of Fame is that the nomination process is controlled by a few individuals who are not themselves musicians, such as founder Jann Wenner (co-founder and editor-in-chief of Rolling Stone magazine), former foundation director Suzan Evans, and writer Dave Marsh, reflecting their personal tastes rather than the views of the rock world as a whole. A former member of the nominations board once commented that "At one point Suzan Evans lamented the choices being made because there weren't enough big names that would sell tickets to the dinner. That was quickly remedied by dropping one of the doo-wop groups being considered in favor of a 'name' artist ... I saw how certain pioneering artists of the '50s and early '60s were shunned because there needed to be more name power on the list, resulting in '70s superstars getting in before the people who made it possible for them. Some of those pioneers still aren't in today."

I'll just put in a nod for Kraftwerk. Very important in the development of electronica and one of the important groups to come out of Germany.

If you put in Bad Brains and The Cars you can induct them and their producer together. That would be pretty cool.

J Geils Band is one of the greatest live bands of all time. And the funkiest band in the land. They should be in!

If Journey gets in I am never stepping foot in that place again.
Who am I kidding? I've never been there to begin with. But the fact remains that Journey is horrible.
Where are the Replacements?

If they were at the forefront of creating punk, then they shouldn't get in just out of punishment.

From that list I would go Zombies (Odessey and Oracle was one of the greatest albums no one ever heard - well, except for one song) and Yes. How can the Moody Blues not even be nominated?
