Rock & Roll HOF 2017 Nominees

They may, or may not ever get in, but every person in that band is a WORLD CLASS musician. They are very, very gifted players, sort of the modern day version of Steely Dan, as far as great musicians(not genre or style, but quality).
With the kind of following they have, I think they have to get in. Otherwise the ceremony will take place in a half empty arena and nobody is going to watch in on HBO.

The problem with the Chili Peppers, is that Anthony Keidis cannot sing. At all. Ever. Out of key, flat, and simply horrendous. But hey, Dylan couldn't sing either, lmao, so there's that.

I say the same thing about Neil Young, but I can't help but listen to him. What do you think?

Both are intelligent, gifted artists, whose talent overshadows their technical prowess. I met Keidis once and he came off like a sincere, decent, caring man. I never met Neil Young, but for ever and ever I thought he was a great guy. Then he dumped his loving wife of 30 plus years, for a snake named Daryl Hannah. We just don't ever know these people, I suppose.

Did not know that about his personal life. It does change your perspective. By the way, Graham Nash, at 75 or 76, did the same thing, I think.

OK, tickets on sale Friday. i will try my best to get two for me and my wife.

I only hope that folks attending like Eddie Vedder keep their political views to them selves. ...and memo to Neil Young, love ya brother but watch what you say because I won't agree with it. If they get ugly, I will get uglier!!!

This day will be about music and music only. Yes has never been political in any stretch.

They can and should say whatever they want. Don't go if easily offended...

Tickets go on sale next Friday.

I thought about purchasing tickets, but opted against it. Seems as though tix were very popular -- they sold out in 1 hour. CLICK HERE for an article about that. @Relayer -- were you able to purchase 2 tickets?

Steve Perry has still not made any public comments about whether he'll be at the ceremony, or whether he'll perform with Journey.

I was on Ticketmaster the second they went on sale and nothing was available, came up empty every time. I must have hit refresh 200 times in the next 30 minutes.

Then I went to Stubhub and saw the lowest price at $190 upper deck. Now the lowest is up to $238. Will take a wait and see approach over the next couple weeks.

sorry you were unable to get tix. if you're willing to sit tight, prices should drop. and if not, I believe the induction ceremony will be on HBO.

It sounds like the Yes original keyboard player Tony Kaye might not make the ceremony due to health reasons. Tony played on the first 3 albums including the Yes Album. He was also part of the Yes rebirth in the 80's with 90125, Big Generator, Union and Talk.

For you Yes Fans, here's a great medley of music. They cover 4+ decades of the Yes generation in 40 minutes. Let me introduce you to Circa: Alan White, Tony Kaye, Billy Sherwood and Jimmy Haun. Great stuff!

I'm here looking for any updates.

Has Steve Perry made any recent statements about performing? Also, did Jeff Lynne invite Bev Bevan to perform with ELO?

We're getting close to the date, and I would think plans are being firmed up.

So Cleveland.com ranked the 50 best songs from the artists that are being inducted in the HOF in April: 2pac, Yes, Pearl Jam, Journey, Electric Light Orchestra, Joan Baez and Nile Rodgers (of Chic). I think they tried hard to balance things, but I just don't agree with their list. You can access it at THIS LINK.

Their top 25
1. Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
2. Good Times - Chic
3. California Luv - 2pac
4. Roundabout - Yes
5. Black - Pearl Jam
6. Le Freak - Chic
7. Livin' Thing - Electric Light Orchestra (ELO)
8. Yellow Ledbetter - Pearl Jam
9. Dear Mama - 2pac
10. Diamonds & Rust - Joan Baez
11. Telephone Line - ELO
12. Close to the Edge - Yes
13. Faithfully - Journey
14. Jeremy - Pearl Jam
15. Hit 'Em Up - 2pac
16. I Want Your Love - Chic
17. Any Way You Want It - Journey
18. Evil Woman - ELO
19. Better Man - Pearl Jam
20. I've Seen All Good People - Yes
21. Open Arms - Journey
22. Strange Magic - ELO
23. Alive - Pearl Jam
24. I Get Around - 2pac
25. Corduroy - Pearl Jam

Perhaps it's an age thing, but I wouldn't put anything by 2pac in the top 25, let alone the top 10.

Having two Chic songs in the top 10 reinforces, to me, some of the outrage that was expressed when Chic was not named as an inductee, but Nile Rodgers was.

I doubt any two people would have the same top 25 list -- just thought this attempt by Cleveland.com would interest some of you.

The fact that Roundabout and All Good People made that list shows the people voting know very little about Yes. Not sure if either makes my Yes top 20.

California Love is worthy but that is as much a Dr. Dre song as it is Tupac. Still a great club song after all these years.

IMO, Evenflow is the standard for Pearl Jam songs - great video too.

Interesting comment from Neal Schon in today's Spokesman-Review (at THIS LINK):

The fact that many fans continue to blame Schon for Perry’s absence irks the guitarist.

“It’s nobody’s fault,” Schon said about Perry’s absence.

“The door has always been open. I’ve always tried to make direct contact with him rather than using his attorney. He’s not allowed that. And so it’s really not me. The fans need to work on him (Perry) a bit more if they want him to come up and (sing with Journey). He’s really not interested in doing anything with us. We’re completely fine with that. But just, I just get so tired of hearing people say, ‘You need to put your ego aside. You need to go knock on his door and tell him how you feel.’ I go ‘No, you just don’t have a clue.’ ”

(It’s still an open question whether Perry will join Journey when the band is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April. The only statement Perry has made about it is a short comment on his website: “I am truly grateful that Journey is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”)

The presenters for this year's inductees are:

• ELO -- presented by Dhani Harrison

• Joan Baez -- presented by Jackson Browne

• Journey -- presented by Pat Monahan (of Train)

• Pearl Jam -- presented by Neil Young

• Tupac Shakur -- presented by Snoop Dogg

• Yes -- presented by Geddy Lee & Alex Lifeson (Rush)

• Nile Rodgers -- presented by Pharrell Williams

The induction ceremony/concert takes place on April 7. Still not one word from Steve Perry on whether he'll be there, or whether he'll perform with Journey.

Other musicians scheduled to perform at the induction ceremony include Lenny Kravitz (performing a tribute to Prince), Alicia Keys, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and the Indigo Girls.

HBO will broadcast an edited version of the induction ceremony on April 29th.

Well, finally some word on Steve Perry and the induction. As usual, no word from Steve, but Jonathan Cain told the Dayton News the following:

“The ceremony is the first time we’re going to get to see Steve Perry in a long time, so that’ll be fun,” Cain said. “As far as we know he’s just going to accept the award and then skedaddle. That’s all I know, unless something changes. Arnel is going to represent very well, like he always does.”

Does not appear that the secondary market prices have dropped, per THIS ARTICLE. Relayer, did you ever end up acquiring tix?

The bands that resonate with me from my youth.

J Geils Band ...literally wore out "Live Full House". If you love blues driven party music they were hot. Spent an unheard of amount at the time ($20!) to see them as an opening act. After they tore the place up Peter Frampton showed up with a 12 string and started strumming away. Nothing against Frampton but what a let down.
Steppenwolf
Zombies
Cars
Journey

I have been monitoring stubhub for weeks. Tickets for the upper deck had been steady in the $220 and up range. In the past week they have really spiked. I was hoping they would go in the other direction. So no, I haven't acquired tickets.

What cautions me at those prices is the uncertainty of who is actually going to play and what are they going to play. There is some tension between Steve's Yes and ARW. We don't even know who is filling in for Chris. Sounds like it won't be Geddy Lee.

Maybe we'll find out more tomorrow night. Yes will be live on Sirius 106 tomorrow night. This is the lineup with Howe, White, Downes, Sherwood and Davison. ARW just wrapped up their European Tour last week.
