Maybe some SC-area folks who follow the saga closely will consider signing up and engaging in the class discussion! I think I would personally pay for Misder, Lundy, ChiTown.... JayPa... to attend!

Its stuff like this that helps allow the NCAA to say that it was PSU, and not them, that did the real damage to the Paterno estate.

Consider the 'hook' in title of the course itself: "Joe Paterno's Penn State...."
Good grief.

If you think Goebbels was a propagandist, you have knot seen the likes of Ronald Smith. He makes Steven A Smith on ESPiN look like another Einstein.

I hope the Paternos or alum trustees send a cease and desist order to both this idiot professor and U of I press, especially in light of all of the serious charges against the admins being quashed. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

You'd think these people would wait until due process has run it's course before trying to write a book about what happened. But nope, they want to smear the Paterno name so they can make a quick buck. Makes me sick.

If enough people express interest, I might just haul my ass up to State College to witness this spectacle.

Note it is three consecutive Wednesdays if any out-of-towners are thinking about attending.

Perhaps if a group of 'dissidents' go, they could compile a list of questions to ask that challenge the presumed narrative. Have concrete examples to refute that Joe ran the place his way or else, etc. I say presumed narrative from Smith because to know them for certain would mean buying the book and reading it! I can't easily suggest that anyone here waste their money on it, but gotta fight fire with fire sometimes, I guess.

Examples: the profs who have stated that Joe and the coaches never interfered with their grades, the report that Spanier asked for that contradicted Tripony's assertions, Ray Blehar's many points from his research, etc.
Among all the interested folks here, we know enough ex-players and coaches, admin and staff, etc. that a list of contradictory (to Smith's statements) claims could be complied and used in the, uh, discussion.

Wouldn't it be a hoot to see Jay or David or Scott or even Sue sign up to attend the course? It would be SRO in that sanctuary! (I might go just to meet you, Art!)

Ray Blehar should sign up for the course. He would have this man in tears. Took Smith's OLLI course last year. He is so full of misinformation and himself. Doesn't know what he is speaking about. Went head to head with him every session. He tried to tell the group that Mike McQueary only testified under oath once. Didn't even know that the individual who was acting superintendent at Central Mountain, during the Aaron Fisher fiasco and failed to report the incident, was part of his audience for all six sessions. Referred to Joe as a rat many times. He self interpreted his research data to fit the outline for his book. Yes, you should sign up and attend and challenge the heck out of him.
He told the group that Joe has Ed Czekaj removed as AD, so he (Joe) could take over the athletic department. Joe's goal was to have the football program put under the finance department instead of athletics. I hope University of Illinois Press has his book listed under fiction category.

My guess is that he's going top rehash a lot of history with which we're familiar (Rashard Casey, Anwar Phillps, et al) as well as the Freeh Report.

I agree. I don't know what PSU is thinking.
