Good morning Nittany Nation, I’m officially in Los Angeles and the Rose Bowl press conference will be taking place in about an hour.

Check back for updates!

Kyle Whittingham says Utah is “honored” to play Penn State, calls them the best defense they’ll have played this year, very impressed by the Nittany Lions linebacker room.

James Franklin says there’s a lot of similarities between the Nittany Lions and Utes. Fundamentalists programs built around strong defensive play and tough quarterbacks.

Despite being down their top two tight needs, Kyle Whittingham believes Utah is going to be okay at the position during the Rose Bowl.

Notably, these are two programs that use the tight end position more than most. Possibly two of the top five tight end rooms in the country.

Both coaches were asked about how the offensive similarities help them prepare. Both note that it does help a little bit but the offenses while up front may seem very similar. Have little differences that make them also widely different offenses.

When asked about Abdul Carter, Kyle Whittingham says again that the entire Penn State defense is phenomenal. Also called Carter a terrific player.

Kyle Whittingham was asked about the PAC-12 possibly requiring injury reports weekly. Says he’s be fine with it if it was universal across the FBS but not if it was only the PAC-12.

James Franklin noted he feels the same way.

What has James Franklin been impressed by the most this season with his team? The Nittany Lions “leadership”, notes the difference in opt outs, open and honest discussions, and the legacy their going to leave at Penn State.
