Ross Tucker Continues His 2019 Recruit Rankings

My God does he appear wrong on Cain!
I don't think he is wrong about cain. We will see over the years, but travis didnt say cain was bad, just said he didn't really improve as a high school player. He is not terribly fast, etc. I think Cain's ceiling is as a productive short yard back in an offense that features a burner at RB and a fast QB. One pring game disnt change my mind.

Cain showed good vision, broke tackles and fought for the extra yards. I wouldn't
be surprised if he is the starter by mid season.

Wrong on a lot of them. Brisker will beat out Wade, he is a lot better than him.
If he beats out Wade, that's saying something, considering that Wade has 2 years under his belt and Brisker is just coming in this summer. Sutherland is also a factor here.

It's interesting to hear the various opinions on the new players. Noah Cain in particular has created a split opinion among our staff. The other guys having a much higher opinion of him than Ross. I'm curious, does anyone think that Devyn Ford will be a factor this year?

I think it depends on his weight when he arrives on campus. If he shows up around 200lbs, I think he'll definitely be a factor! He still might RS just bc we're stacked at RB, but he will make the competition much more intense! I think he will have the best pair of hands of ALL our RBs, and has that 2nd gear, that Cain maybe doesn't have. Either way, we're completely stacked at RB, and it should be fun to watch the next several years! Specially if we can get a blue chipper this year, and close on Pryor next year!

Really??? I can see playing time by I do not see him starting by a long shot unless due to injury.
Cain was tearing up the starting defense in the first half. What's more impressive is doing it with such an inexperienced OL. The guys that played on the White team OL COMBINED for 16 snaps last season. All of those snaps were coming from Des Holmes.

Ford looks to be nit NCAA ready - very thin.

If all the other RBs have a run for 2 yards, the board will be clamoring for Ford to play. ;)

I don't disagree. My point was it's a glorified scrimmage. If he can know what the blocking scheme is and which blitzing LB'r is his read is a totally different story in a real game. If the coaches say he starts then so be it but I am not ready to say he should be starting based on a scrimmage.

Jim, does Greg Pickel watch the games? It seems like most of what he says the complete opposite is true. For example, Des Holmes played against Matos and held his own but Greg said he did not look good. I often find he misses the mark

Pickel is only as good as the info he gleans from pay sites. Will Cain be a starter? Probably not, but he will see a ton of PT. He is a gifted North-South runner and will complement Slade quite well.

Matt Millen said that after reviewing the spring practice videos that Journey Brown was the best of the three running backs. I think Cain will only get better and I feel very good about him from what I saw in the spring game. A lot of teams have been very successive with good inside runners like Cain. I’m more concerned about our OL. If we get good blocking it doesn’t matter which of the three starts they’ll get the job done.

I’m looking forward to the Big Ten network’s August camp trips to the all the conference schools. Howard Griffith was very high on Cain during their national signing day special. His review of Cain and the other RB’s ought to be very interesting. And the last few years DiNardo has been pretty accurate in his assessment of our OL.

I feel that Pickel tries to be too negative to make himself sound credible. I agree it's annoying when he says statements like that.

This team has crazy depth and rb and qb position. I sure we will see lots of transfers though over next few years.

DiNardo, for all of his quirks, has been right on about our O-Line in years past. When Franklin said our line had a chance to be the strength of the team last year(they were not) Dinardo still thought the line was sort of a second tier BIG 10 O-line. Improved? Yes, and they were, but not dominant or a strength by any means.

I would have to go back to the show (or article) to see what he said. I don't think there is anything wrong with disagreeing with what guys say, but saying that most of what he says is wrong isn't fair.

We have a segment in our show called "Ask Greg". You can present your question thru our APP (search Keystone Sports) or send the question to me at: info@ksnsports.net Either way, I will make sure that Greg addresses the question of Des Holmes' play.

Debating this kind of question is what makes sports fun.

Who looked better?
Slade last year against real 1a competition and not in a scrimmage. I love what Cain did, but I've seen walk ons light up a BW game. What was his longest run...11 yards? I think most are thinking...well he looks the part, but also realize he's playing against a vanilla defense with very little pass protection responsibility.

No disrespect to Matt, but see his job as GM of Detroit Lions as Exhibit A as to trusting his judgement on football talent. I’d love his assessment to be true, but highly doubt it.

Offensive line will be the problem. They are soft.

Isn't one off these two guys not impressed with Cain?

He said so much prior after signing day?

Then the Blue-White game happened!!!!

He is as bad as Nate!!

Who is YOUR #1 receiver after the BW game? Chisena?

They are not soft. It is the scheme. Virtually all of them were supposed to be nasty when they were recruited. Suddenly they are all soft.
I hate when recruitniks use the term 'nasty' for OL. Its easy to be nasty in HS. Nasty cant always handle the speed in college

Use whatever term you want. Who said any of the OL on the depth chart were soft, weak, slow coming in? Nobody.

I think the jury is still out on how good he is. This was just a B/W game. He is breaking arm tackles and some runs he is not touched for 5 yards. One thing is certain to me is, he has incredible vision for a true freshman.
