Well, kind of a good thing. But with Ryder and the twins is their room?
As pointed out by another poster in a different thread, it's very possible that Sanderson's in-home visit to Lawrence occurred prior to the recent verbal commitment from the Mirasola twins.

Not denying his incredible talent but I think of read the passage below as Cael is kicking the tires on a PA kid who is pretty close by. A kid I'm sure Cael would love to have but probably isn't offering a ton of scholarship money (if any) but you bring him in (and also keep him away from others) and see how good he gets because he is damn good.

“[Sanderson] was a really quiet guy. He didn’t say a lot. He just told Rune to take his time,” Joe Lawrence said. “It was really nice to have him come to the house and talk to him.”

That just doesn’t sound like a coach that wants the recruit very much. All I think about is SVN talking about how Cael wouldn’t take no for an answer. Maybe I’m way off, but as a dad/recruit, that’s not a quote I would have shared.

Since Cael has been at PSU, it’s gone like this for me…Cael doesn’t get the kid I really really like but gets another kid I like but not as much. The the kid Cael gets pretty much always turns out better than the one I wanted him to get.
I think a large part of level of accomplishment difference is the rooms the guys end up developing in.

This sounds like a coach who is very confident in his recruiting strategy and results. Which he should be. And one who takes a sincere interest in the athlete -- there have been stories of Cael being the only coach to ask recruits about their interests and goals outside of wrestling.

As opposed to the many coaches who put the screws to recruits, demanding commitments on the spot, threatening to withdraw offers in an hour, etc.

The Van Ness analogy is inapplicable. Cael "didn't take no for an answer" when Van Ness tried to reject PSU for Cornell, after having already narrowed down to his final 3 schools.

Are you saying Cael has some sort of plan.

I wouldn't go that far, I don't think Cael is going into the living room of a kid he doesn't want very much. But I think he's hoping he's a kid who would maybe come for little to no money, which is probably a long shot but the kid is like 2 hours from PSU, why not let him know I would love for you to come to PSU.

Cael cared enough to go to Rune's home. That is huge. With all the studs in the program, I would wager most are not getting a lot of $$. NIL cane be the game changer here.

You guys are right. Saying “not wanting very much” probably wasn’t the best choice of words. Either way, the quote doesn’t give me much hope that Rune is coming to PSU. Just seemed like a strange quote to me.

We should be able to get this kid some sweet NIL money to help out. I hate to see this kid as a Suckeye or part of the Children of the Corn. This kid has the frame at 6'3 to be nice heavy in a couple of years if he wants as well.

I wanted Johnny Sebastian , hahahaha . I’ll let Cael figure it out I’ve decided
Johnny Sebastian was killa. From my high school (Bergen Catholic). Both shoulders went on him. The kid has guts. He went through complete shoulder reconstructions had to take two years off and still tried to come with back Wisky. He got back to top 15 his last year bit was never the same wrestler with those shoulders. I pray Howard doesn't follow in footsteps. Good news is he earned undergrad and masters from NW and another MBA from Wisky! That is alot of degrees! I saw him in church a couple of weeks ago in Ramsey and he looked great. I wouldn't want those shoulders later in life though.

Sebastian wanted to come to PSU, but then he visited a practice. It didn't go nearly according to plan -- McCutcheon pinned him every time they paired up. He had nothing for Mouse at all.

Nothing wrong with his shoulders. He just wasn't competitive.

Cael figured out something that day: Sebastian belonged somewhere else.

He was a three time NJ State Champ! He was more than competitive at NW and Wisky. He was ranked and doing fine until his shoulders disintegrated. He wanted a top notch business education and NW beats PSU in that category.
