I’d be a multi millionaire in today’s world for all of the shit I dealt with as a youngster.

Apparently you don’t know what a snowflake is. We’re not the ones getting big settlements for ridiculous lawsuits. I guess I should throw a tantrum every time I hear a bald joke....it takes away my power.....$20 million your honor.

Oh, snowflake ... you go ahead and take a stand for the transgressors. They shouldn't have to suffer. It should be the victim that has to suffer ... and suck it up and act like a man, amirite? Don't be a victim! And whine about victims!

So, when I show how much of a snowflake you’ve become, you respond “you ain’t seen nuttin' yet!” Yes, not only has his life been completely ruined by this .. unfairly, of course ... but now we might as well just kill him, if we’re going to hold him accountable for the crime he committed. You not only melted ... you evaporated.

Yes, society will be better when we teach people not to sexually demean others, or otherwise humiliate them by inappropriately touching them.

Regardless, let's conduct an exercise in perspective, shall we? We shall ... The guy struck her. What if he had struck her in the head and knocked her down? Is that actionable, or is reacting to that “being a victim”? What if he slapped her in the head, but didn’t knock her down? What if he massaged/caressed her ass, instead of slapping it? What if he grabbed her breast? Or slapped her there? Or grabbed her crotch? Or grabbed her by the hips and made thrusting motions?

Do those situations all involve a reaction where we say "hey, he's bad, but the victim shouldn't complain, because then she'd be a victim, and society shouldn't do anything, because we don't ruin the guy's life"?

Or is that reaction saved for the assaulting ass slap, because that apparently holds a special place in our heart.
See, there’s your problem...there are different levels of seriousness. Snowflakes like you think all mistakes are the same and everyone should pay equally. Slapping her in the head and knocking her down is worse than slapping her on the butt, just like beating someone and putting them in the hospital is worse than punching someone in the face which is worse than punching someone in the arm. Every situation you described would have been worse than what he did, yet you’re acting like they’re all the same. There are different degrees of wrong (except maybe in the little Utopia in your head) and the degrees should be penalized differently. In your argument apparently we should give jail time for speeding....hey, they’re breaking the law right?

Some asshole acts like an asshole and gets called on it, and some people are upset that he doesn't get a pass?

And these same people call other people "snowflakes"?

That is assholery of the first order.

They are threatened. Its white-boy identity politics. Someone is trying to "take their power" to ride roughshod over other people. They think riding roughshod is wrong but not a big deal.
“Taking someone’s power”...is that the new catchphrase of the month? And I guarantee there are many black people who think this situation is overkill....so what is that...black man identity politics? I’ve talked to a lot of women who think she’s overreacting....is that White women identity politics? One of these women I’ve talked to about it is gay....is that gay women identity politics?

Why am I arguing with someone who doesn’t even know what a snowflake is? And nowadays the terms “victim” is pretty loosely defined....that’s kind of the point.

Another person who doesn’t know how to read. I don’t see anyone saying he should get a pass....the discussion has been what is the correct punishment. Bringing in a high powered attorney seems like overkill to many, but apparently people who call that out are the assholes....right.

A "snowflake" is someone who turns an assaulting ass slapper into a victim whose life is ruined to the point where he might as well just be killed, because when someone is assaulted, they're not a victim and, at most, we should give the ass slapper a "oh, you little scamp! be good, but if not, we're not going to do anything about it, you rascal!" talking to.

of the first order, yes

why some people feel the need to defend the indefensible...well, there's a lot of that going around these days

Jail time for speeding tickets! Breaking the law is breaking the law....it’s indefensible.

Having your power to ignore abuse of women questioned is very threatening, I see.

To treat this as no big deal is your most fervent hope. Must be because it feels like a slippery slope to you. Is that right? You feel threatened by law that has been in place for 100 years?

Some speeding is reckless driving, and does carry jail time. Sorry to break your heart, snowflake.

But of course, your equating sexual battery (as defined under Georgia law) with "speeding" certainly is not insulting, or any indication of your views about women's rights. Correct?

You're a dope.

Hahaha! Gloria Allred isn't exactly a "high powered attorney." She's a good publicist who has done very well getting TV cameras pointed at her, but I'm not aware of any actual lawsuits she's won that would demonstrate actual legal acumen on her part. I doubt the reporter is going to sue this criminal defendant. Jury verdicts in tort cases are always a roll of the dice and he probably doesn't have enough assets to persuade a real litigator to take the reporter's case. We'll find out soon enough.

As for the "correct" punishment, Georgia criminal law provides for up to 1 year in a county jail and a fine of up to $5000. Assuming he's convicted, whether it's for the sexual battery count he was arrested for or simple battery, which carries the same potential jail time but has a maximum fine of $1000, his criminal punishment will be decided by a judge sitting on the Chatham County bench.

In contrast, the social consequences for his decision to slap a woman on her ass in broad daylight on live television will be up to each individual who interacts with him. The Savannah Sports Council and Boy Scouts of America have already weighed in; I imagine the rest will be a very mixed bag for him.

Tommy-boy Calloway gets the hook from the Boy Scouts. He is a tobacco salesman.

"The Boy Scouts issued a statement to Heavy saying, “Upon learning of this incident, we immediately removed this individual and prohibited him from any future participation in our programs. This behavior runs counter to Scouting’s values and everything we teach our members about treating others with dignity and respect. The BSA takes this type of conduct very seriously and we always consider what is best for our youth members, staff and volunteers when making these decisions.“

He works for a tobacco company?!

Remember when all the corrupt, crooked, dishonest lawyers stole all the tobacco company settlement money from states like Florida? Thieves.

The leaders you elected let that happen. Good job!

I believe VA law still makes sodomy illegal...just because something is defined in the law, doesn’t make it right. And most speeding is not reckless driving, so I’m not sure what that has to do with anything.

And please point out to me where I ever said to ignore this guy....just because I don’t want to castrate him doesn’t mean I said to ignore him. There are different levels of punishment. Not agreeing with breaking out the pitchforks and torches doesn’t mean ignore it altogether.

Lol, no way women talk to you with your attitude, much less agree with you. C'mon man.

Good for the Boy Scouts for knowing that slapping a woman's ass is not right. If only they could talk to the jackasses on this board.

And what attitude is that? That things should be kept in perspective? Yeah, no woman would ever agree with that...maybe you should tell all women how they should think since you obviously feel they can’t figure it out on their own.

Again, please point out where anyone said it was right.....waiting. That’s the problem with so many posters....if you have a slightly different opinion then you must fall all the way at the other end of the spectrum. From my very first post in this thread I said what the guy did was absolutely wrong and I’ve also said he should be penalized for it....my only question was how severe the penalty should be....and that gets twisted by posters like you into me (and others with my opinion) fully supporting this guy and thinking nothing should happen to him. Just like anyone who had the audacity to not be 100% sure that the guy who wrote the letter was doing it for racist reasons must be a card carrying member of the KKK. Ridiculous.

But the law sets the penalty, yet you are upset with that too. You think the law is too harsh. You want him to get treated like he let his parking meter run out.

Well, since I'm a stickler for facts, VA actually does not have a law that makes sodomy illegal (another fact of which you may not have been aware, but the term "sodomy" included not just anal sex, but also oral sex and bestiality in many statutory definitions).

Regardless, I looked back over many of your "contributions" to this thread ... what exactly are you saying? At one point you were for having the guy fined $1K for a battery charge. Then you just went on non-stop about how you didn't want him treated too harshly, but you never actually explained what was treating him too harshly. What, exactly, is "treating him too harshly"? Use your words. Now he's been charged with sexual battery, which could bring a fine up to $5K, and jail time up to 12 months ... so are those acceptable punishments? Why not? At some point you veered away from punishments, and you were talking about forgiveness, and victims not being victims. Does that mean you actually thought about it and just wanted her to forgive and forget, with no formal punishment?

Lay it out there for us, because you're just using these exaggerative and nebulous characterizations.

Where did I say that? I don’t think the law is too harsh, I think there are varying degrees of sexual assault and this particular case falls on then low end....excuse me for not thinking it’s on the same level as rape.

It's just hard to try to get you to focus in on logic, since you're just ranting on emotion, and don't seem to be able to think logically. I never said, nor implied that all mistakes are the same and everyone should pay equally. Your suggestion that I conveyed that is completely baseless, and asinine.

So, every situation I described was worse than what he did? Why? Explain, in each case, what makes it worse. And explain what the appropriate punishment should be and what justifies the difference. For instance, what's more worthy of punishment in slapping a tit than slapping an ass? Or slapping the back of a head than slapping an ass? Or giving a caress to an ass, rather than a slap? And so on.

I really want to focus in on the one hypothetical after you've completed the above task ... the one where I hypothesized a situation where he slaps her on the back of the head (not knocking her down). How, exactly, is that worse than slapping someone on the ass? In actual law, an ass slap is treated more harshly (as evidenced by the charges in the instant case), so explain to me, and the legislators of the various Statess, why they have it wrong, and why a slap to the back of the head is more egregious, and worthy of a harsher punishment, than an ass slap. And ... go ...

Oh, and before I post this ... you seem to be all about casting judgment on folks like me, because we supposedly want too much to happen to this guy ... please explain just what punishment I want for the assaulting ass slapper. Surely, since you are able to cast judgment on the appropriateness of my recommendation, you know what my recommendation is, right? So, what is it? And how does it differ from your recommendation?

Where did I say that? I don’t think the law is too harsh, I think there are varying degrees of sexual assault and this particular case falls on then low end....excuse me for not thinking it’s on the same level as rape.
He is a smarmy lawyer , really upset he can't be in the spotlight handling a dumb case that fits mode of ambulance chasing

You posted what I said the punishment should be then you posted that I never said what it should be....not real bright are you? I said fine the guy $1,000 and be done with it. I don’t care what the maximum fine is because this guy should not get the maximum fine. Anything over $1000 would be treating him too harshly....do you follow or should I repeat it again so you can keep up? Should someone who steals a dollar get the same punishment as someone who robs a bank? They’re both illegal after all.
