Nearly four months after Rutgers announced plans to move a football home game against Maryland in the 2017 season to Yankee Stadium, the university's athletics department on Tuesday morning announced the wrestling teams also will be getting in on the action.

Billed as the "Big Ten Battle in the Bronx,'' Rutgers will contest a football and wrestling doubleheader against Maryland at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017.

The Rutgers-Maryland wrestling match will be the first in the history of Yankee Stadium, and will be followed by the Scarlet Knights-Terps football game later in the day.

Creedo vs. Ficker:

...with Ficker it is not about Maryland wrestling...
...it's all about Ficker...

....oh,well...

Between the general ignorance of the Rutgers crowd and the excessive volume of rap/hiphop music they play the entire hour leading up to the match, I gave up my season tickets at Rutgers. Just a really negative atmosphere or maybe I'm just too old. I can't imagine how bad it will be at Yankee Stadium. Less than an hour trip, but no thanks.

That is absolutely true about Ficker. I was there when PSU wrestled at MD 2 seasons ago and directly across from Ficker and he was in the front row and quite loud. Then, in the 141 match (could have been 149) the crazy guy (Shane Sparks) from BTN sat down next to him to interview him and Ficker completely ignored the wrestling while being interviewed. I already knew it was all about Ficker but that really brought it home for me.

Creedo and especially Ficker should have enough hot air to at least keep the mat thawed for 2 hrs.

If you live within distance to go to this event, you owe it to all of us to do your part to take away the attendance record from those dreadful Hawkeyes.

That is, literally, the only reason I would attend. Maybe I'll buy a ticket and not go - that is if paid attendance is the measure of attendance. ;)

If a Penn Stater buys tickets and gives them to some local kid, is that a poop-a-cruiseship transfer for Creedo?

That is NOT going to happen no matter what. This will get more people than a regular Rutgers dual because some people will go just for the novelty. However, total attendance for the wrestling dual will still me only a couple thousand at best.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. The "Battle at the Birthplace" event this year has already sold over 10,000 tickets. RU Wrestling attendance was in the top 6 or 7 in 2014-15 at almost 3,000/match (just going off memory, not looking it up).

They are not going to hit 40,000 plus like Iowa-OK State, but it is going to be more than a couple of thousand.

Wrestling is pretty popular in New Jersey...

We are moving on up. Aren't going to get where PSU and Iowa are any time soon, but I truly believe reaching 3rd is attainable within the next 5 years, especially in a year with a big event stadium match on the schedule. We were right around 1,000 season tickets last year, and are already ahead of that this year.

It would be very exciting to see an RU-PSU matchup at Yankee stadium in the future (hopefully at a time when you guys are back to operating your program on the planet earth). That would probably the best possible draw for the region, just because of the size of both schools and the number of alumni living in or near NYC. I don't know how much Maryland really travels for wrestling. They have always had a contingent, but not a large one.

If you can do something about the damned overly loud and obnoxious music that is played before matches at the RAC, I would consider renewing my season tickets. As it is, it's just too annoying being there.
