Sam Katz is turning his lens away from Philadelphia's history to Pennsylvania's present.
The three-time mayoral candidate announced Thursday that his next documentary will focus on the saga of embattled Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane. Katz, who is seeking funding for the project, plans to call it The Kane Mutiny.

Unlike his previous regionally focused documentaries with his History Making Productions - such as Philadelphia: The Great Experiment - Katz sees The Kane Mutiny as a story with national appeal because of its uniqueness, and because Kane is "such an unusual character."

Katz is partnering on the project with freelance writer Lisa DePaulo, whom Katz first met when she wrote a 1991 profile of him for Philadelphia magazine that he did not like. They've since found common ground.

DePaulo said she's interested in the Kane saga because it's still unfolding. She also mentioned the gender implications of Kane's story.

"All my friends are saying to me, 'Don't let [Kane] be a disaster for women getting into politics.' I know Sam [Katz] isn't as into the gender thing, but I am. But we don't want our strong and smart, charismatic women to fail," said DePaulo, who like Kane hails from Scranton. "And she may not. She's endured a lot more than I thought she would.

"You can say whatever you want about Kathleen Kane, she is one tough broad."

The first woman and first Democrat elected state attorney general, Kane had a bright political future in front of her after taking office in 2013. There were even rumblings about a potential gubernatorial bid.

But after The Inquirer reported in 2014 that she had quashed a sting operation launched by her predecessors that had ensnared Democratic Philadelphia politicians, her fortunes took a dive:
She has been charged with leaking confidential grand jury information to a newspaper to embarrass a political rival; her law license has been suspended; Gov. Wolf and other top Democrats have called for her resignation; and the state Senate has formally begun a process that could end with her removal from office.
Kane has fought back, saying her troubles have been generated by angry Republican men who resent her crashing the old boys' network.

She has also released hundreds of emails containing racist, sexist, and misogynistic quotes and images that were circulated among judges, prosecutors, and other law enforcement officials using government servers.
"Porngate," as the matter is called, led one state Supreme Court justice to retire early and has placed another in danger of losing his post.

Chuck Ardo, Kane's spokesman, said Thursday he does not believe Kane has heard about The Kane Mutiny.

"But I can tell you without equivocation that she hopes it has a happy ending," Ardo said.
Asked what that would be, he said:
"I think the happy ending would be that she was found to have been innocent of the charges she faces. And that she's given due credit for the problems she has exposed with the judicial system."

I doubt that there are very many people outside of PA that know who Kane is. So I guess I'm missing whatever it is that would give this "national appeal".

My sister went to High School(Dunmore) with Lisa DePaulo, she's a terrible writer.

LOL.

Seems to me that there have been a ton of films over all these decades about people who nobody ever heard about until they saw the film. Your stretching. Again. LOL.

IDK. However, when it comes to films, I prefer a true account of events.
If that's the case, and I also prefer an accurate account as opposed to sensationalized reimaginings, nobody will end up looking particularly good.

For whatever reason Kane can't help but lie. It's truly puzzling how anyone could do it with such consistency the way she has. I know many give her pass believing that the ends justify the means. That very well may be true, but it doesn't change her dishonesty on several occasions.

It will end up being a story of a petty political rivalry exposing real corruption. The back and forth between Kane and Fina is going to end a lot of careers.

So Kane is the only one lying?

Bullshit.

How the hell did you get that from:

"It will end up being a story of a petty political rivalry exposing real corruption. The back and forth between Kane and Fina is going to end a lot of careers"
????

I'm not suggesting Fina and company are innocent victims. I'm pointing out Kane's ridiculous behavior.

At the release of the Moulton report she made the false claim that the length of the investigation resulted in two previously unknown victims being molested.

Not only was it untrue, but there was zero chance it would go unchallenged.

She made the false claim she had a sworn affidavit from the lead agent on the sting case detailing racial targeting.

That was a total fabrication and another lie that would undoubtedly be exposed.

She made the false claim the judge's protection order prevented her from releasing the emails.

That was a blatant lie as a court ruling, and the judge himself, made it clear months earlier that it didn't.

In a CNN interview about the porn emails she falsely claimed that there was kiddie porn.

That was a lie even by the most liberal descriptions. There was absolutely nothing with children intended for sexual gratification.

She made the false claim that the Feds agreed with her assessment about the sting case.

That was lie. There's an email stating they asked Kane to stop saying it.

Kane isn't a victim in any of this. She got elected by questioning the Sandusky prosecution. Fina saw a chance to take a shot back at her with the sting case.

Had Kane left it at that none of this would have happened. She decided to go looking for payback instead.

She has been wounded .... Wonder if Fina wishes he had never started his offensive given where he sits today. His integrity and credibility has been hurt badly

Kane never had her party's support, even in the general election, so she was unlikely to go any higher. And they have not supported her here, either. This probably puts a chip on her shoulder and makes her more likely to attack all of the guilty, not just the people on the other side of the aisle.

1. There is at least one person who claims that he was abused after the case was sent to the OAG. http://espn.go.com/college-football...iles-abuse-claim-vs-jerry-sandusky-penn-state
2. Beemer did write a memo spelling out his concerns about racial targeting. There's going to be a hearing about it. It certainly isn't a coincidence that the sting targeted only black Democrats. http://articles.philly.com/2015-11-...shop-state-rep-attorney-general-kathleen-kane

1. She claimed the victims weren't part of the prosecution, the only timeframe she offered was the fall of 2009, and said that if different tactics were chosen "of course there wouldn't be more victims"

That's completely untrue and your link proves it.

A. Victim 9, who Kane admitted was one of the two victims she was talking about, told investigators it ended in 2008 and testified that he was unsure when it ended. It wasn't until a 2013 civil suit (detailed in your link) the claim of 2009 was made.
http://mobile.philly.com/beta?wss=/philly/news&id=264429871&

B. It's undeniable that she wanted everyone to believe that the abuse started in the fall of 2009 and two victims could have been avoided altogether. That's a lie, period. Victim 9's abuse began in 2005 and she knew it.

2. What does Beemer's memo have to with anything?

She claimed to have a sworn affidavit from an agent on the case that there was racial targeting. It was a total fabrication on her part. Even her most ardent supporters admit it:
http://casablancapa.blogspot.com/2014/12/kanes-fumbling-distracts-from-genuine.html?m=1

What was found in the file was an unsworn statement about an interview that took place 15 months earlier, and more importantly 4 days after her affidavit claim. She was sued over this claim.

Stop making excuses for her blatant lies and political grandstanding.

And as far as the sting case being racially motivated, it's an incredibly myopic and self serving claim.

It's far more likely that Ali overstated his connections in order to get a deal and they were forced to go after the Legislative Black Caucus because that's who he had relationships with.

It's all about the SPIN now...Spin, spin, Spin! Are you the PR firms project manager for this?
How you haven't wandered into traffic at some point in your life is truly a mystery.

The post you replied to is filled with undeniable facts detailing Kane's dishonesty while attempting to spin stories in her favor.

If you're of the opinion it doesn't matter because 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' that's one thing. Claiming it's just spin is plain dumb.

Example:

At her press conference to address the charges against her (http://www.mcall.com/news/nationwor...n-kane-defense-fact-check-20150812-story.html) she stated -

"My defense will not be that I'm a victim of a Good Ol' Boys Network or otherwise. It will be that I broke no laws of this commonwealth, period"

The very next sentence out of her mouth-

"Until now only a portion of this story's been told"

Which led directly into the claim of a conspiracy to get her because she uncovered a group of prosecutors and judges trading pornographic emails.

But I'm the one you accuse of spinning?

Kane will literally contradict herself from one sentence to the next without batting an eye.

Is there a trial in progress that I missed? A hearing?

Because, that's when and where a defense is made. Amirite?
You think there's a defense that doesn't reference her claim of a vast conspiracy that is, according to her, the sole reason for the charges she's facing? Good luck with that.

You are the one being a wise guy here. She clearly stated what her defense was going to be.
