Resigned this afternoon.
It's hard to be an effective manager when the front office doesn't give you much to work with. Amaro should be following Sandberg out the door.
He should but it seems that Sandberg was a complete dick to the team all the way through. I don't feel bad for him in the least. He never had the team but a couple weeks ago when he basically defended the umpire when Franco was getting screwed every AB he lost everyone. It was just stunning. Bye.
He didn't even inform the team. They are learning from people on twitter.
Yep. Nobody could manage this team. It's hard to be an effective manager when the front office doesn't give you much to work with. Amaro should be following Sandberg out the door.
Not a great personality but this team was not constructed in a way where any kind of success was possible. He should but it seems that Sandberg was a complete dick to the team all the way through. I am not a lover of his personality but the bullpen phone being off the hook was not his fault and neither is this wretched roster he was given to manage.I am not upset with his departure but he is pretty much blameless in my book. Anybody with any baseball acumen can see this team was a disaster on paper. The bullpen phone off the hook in Baltimore was one I won't forget for awhile. It was a symptom more than anything but it became a symbol of the dysfunctional family that is the Phillies and Sandberg its patriarch.
I had heard at a game back in May from a long time Phils fan who lives down there that the players "didn't want to play for him." (his words). That's about the worst endorsement he can get. I don't know what he said in the PC, I guess I'll hear it tomorrow.
Bowa? Love Larry but that would not be move.Quite often "hall of fame types" do not make good managers. Maybe because the game was "easier" for them ? They need, a seasoned manager, tough but understanding. I think "Bowa" may be ready for that role one again.
The dreadful state of the roster is not his fault, however he has been a poor tactical manager and his personality does not seem to motivate or connect with the players. I can see why the Cubs passed on him twice. The bullpen phone off the hook in Baltimore was one I won't forget for awhile. didn't sandberg play for the Phillies at the start of his career before he played for the cubs?
