Dear William,

It’s been a fantastic start for our fall sports teams, with five squads ranked in the top 12 nationally, a win over a No. 1 ranked team, and a successful football home opener. Thank you for supporting Coach Franklin and our student-athletes last Saturday as we started what promises to be another exciting season!

I would like to offer my most sincere apologies if you experienced a delay in receiving your football season tickets or parking. We realize this was frustrating and inconvenient for you as well as the family and friends with whom you share Penn State Football weekends. Thank you for your patience; it is appreciated.

There are no excuses for the delays that occurred. We take full responsibility and assure that it will not happen again. This is not how we go about our daily business of serving our student-athletes and loyal fans. We did not meet the expectations of our customers; nor did we meet our own.

I am grateful for your support of our 800-plus student-athletes, as we simply could not offer the experiences we do without you. Your dedication and passion plays a critical part in empowering our incredible students. I cannot thank you enough for consistently stepping up to support our world class institution and 31 varsity programs. You play such a critical role in defining Who, and WHY, WE ARE!!

We can’t wait for our next family reunion this Saturday as we welcome Pitt back to Beaver Stadium for the first time since 1999. Stadium gates will open at 1:30 p.m. for the 3:30 p.m. contest. I would encourage you to arrive at the stadium early so that you have time to take in some of the early arrival incentives, watch the Penn State Blue Band’s pre-game show and welcome your Nittany Lions onto the field for what promises to be another electric atmosphere!!

Thank you for always showing the best of Penn State and extending gracious hospitality to all our visitors to Happy Valley. I look forward to welcoming Pitt and their fans back to Beaver Stadium and am proud to know that we'll show them every bit of courtesy we do others.

We Are … Grateful!

That's nice. Truly.

Where is the letter saying "Dear William, we would like to offer our sincere apologies for the statements of many of our members of the Board of Trustees which implicated you, the fan, in some way, as being in part or in whole, responsible for the Sandusky scandal, whether implied or explicit. Some of our members were caught up in the maelstrom and spoke out under the umbrella of "Penn State" when in fact these individuals spoke of their own volition. We do not now, nor have we ever placed the burden of any of one individual's crimes upon the shoulders or our valued alums and supporters, etc. etc."

No, instead we were told we were part of a sick culture that valued football above human decency, and were scolded by our trustees as being somehow culpable. We were told that there was enough blame to go around, including the alumni.

Or the apology for allowing a corrupt piece of human garbage, zero-decency lawyer-turned-politician AG, and then Governor, to corruptly take over the Board and abuse his political powers to use PSU as a "foil" and indemnification company to cover and protect TSM and his symbiotic political-relationships at this state-related Entity (while ignoring the fact that TSM had signed a blanket-indemnification with the "Use Agreement and Contract" they signed with PSU way back in 1999!).

The other thing that makes Sandy-Baby's e-mail and open-letter particularly galling and absurd is the number of staff and all manner of Assistant ADs, Assistant-to-the-Assisstant ADs, Jr. Assistant-to-the-Assistant-Assistant ADs, etc., so-on and so-fourth that Barbour has added to the Penn State ICA Department:

But they still couldn't get a simple task like getting Season Tickets and Parking Passes out to patrons more than a couple days prior to the season??? Pathetic, but sadly typical of the "empty suit", zero-accountability, extreme-bureaucratic, highly-political, "bad culture" that has taken over PSU Administrative Departments like the non-sport team blood-sucking, worthless, zero-value-added leaches side of the ICA.

Apologies like this are cheap and fatuous. If remedying the problem cost $200K, as reported, the letter should have been accompanied by o photo of the responsible party's head on a stick.
Why are you so obsessed with firing someone? If she thinks someone deserves to be fired, she'll do it. If she doesn't, she won't. She knows the dynamics of what went on with all parties, more than any of us do.

What is the story with the stadium renovations? I haven't seen or heard anything in quite a while.
The fiasco with the printers will probably mean higher prices next year.

No request for money in that letter. That is more shocking than the letter itself.
the request for money came last week.........they f'ed that up also

Dylan,

You can try to contact Karen, but you won’t be very successful…..

I don’t believe “Karen” has an I.D. in the NLC, or a computer and no e-mail address.

Thanks,

Dylan Herbert

Good afternoon Karen,

I am proud to share that I have recently joined the Nittany Lion Club staff. The majority of my role is focused on working with our supporters throughout the state of Pennsylvania. The continued growth of our Levi Lamb Fund is very important to the success of our athletics program, and supporters like you play a key role. I will be in your area on Wednesday, August 30th as well as Thursday, August 31st and would love to meet with you to introduce myself and learn more about why you support Penn State athletics. Please let me know if you would be available for a meeting in your office, coffee, or lunch.

Thanks in advance,

Dylan Herbert

NITTANY LION CLUB

Supporting Penn State Student Athletes

It was a well written letter. They took responsibility for the screw up and apologized for it.

Looks like a pre-written letter where they just changed a few words, I bet Sandy never saw it, and really don't give a rat's butt about William and his tickets.

A modicum of competence to begin with.

What are the examples of her incompetence? I'm asking seriously because I don't understand where the venom I occassionaly see directed at her on here comes from.

Thank You for sharing.

So, Sandy Barbour thanked you for supporting the Student-Athletes.

Did she also thank everyone for buttressing her seven-figure compensation? Or the compensation of the legion of scullions under her oversight, those folks responsible for delivering a product and service to the Penn State Football fans? The folks who are responsible for the failures that she so graciously acknowledges.

Ms Barbour might need to be reminded that when this is how you go about your daily business, to the tune of an additional $18,000,000, simply saying "this is not how we go about our daily business" really doesn't generate any confirmation. No matter how many times she says it - and no matter how many times she attempts to utilize the mollifying "We Are" buzzwords.

No, when you bungle this consistently, you need to pull out the big guns - a couple of Grand Experiment and 409 references are necessary.

She's a product of the corrupt OG BOT self-serving hacks just like that buffoon Barron and Barbour's predecessor Uncle Fester.....go figure!

The ticket snafu, for one. There are also indications of lack of fiscal discipline (undertaking the Facilities Master Plan, wanton hiring), which may turn out to be of no consequence, but doesn't leave one with a warm, fuzzy feeling given her track record.

To view this email as a web page, go here.

Give it a month. After an exhaustive cause and effect, cost-benefit analysis, they'll announce the hiring of two new assistant athletic directors, one for tickets, one for parking passes, each making around $100K, to make sure this never happens again.

There also was the 409 sticker fiasco with the men's hockey team. sandy turned it into a fiasco.

She doesn't do things exactly how her predecessors under Joe did things, with the exact same staff structure, exact same budgets, etc. Whatever they did in the 80's and 90's should work just as well now. Modernization is a bad word. Who cares if the world and college athletics have changed? Well, except they want WiFi in the stadium. And shorter lines to buy bad concessions. And pay Cael and Russ and Franklin and Moorehead whatever they want. But other than that...

Franklin gets to hire all kinds of additional staff, and bring in coaches at much higher salaries than before, and no one says a peep. He's bringing the football program into the 21st Century! Sandy does the same with the rest of athletics, and the woman is a one man wrecking crew, hell-bent on bankrupting the athetic department, and incompetent.

And the gall to not defend the 409 stickers the hockey team wore, caving to that evil Michigan nobody's tweet... should've fired her right there.

Oh, and she hasn't honored Joe PROPERLY, put the statue back, and given her bosses the middle finger over how they handled Sandusky, and for not letting her honor Joe properly. But it's all her fault anyway.

If she uses "Success with Honor," etc. and defends our culture, they say it's empty platitudes to soothe the masses. Or she doesn't go far enough. Depends on which way the wind is blowing that day. If she doesn't, she's not honoring the Penn State way and Joe. No matter what, she'll be chastised.

She asks for your money, and then actually spends it! The nerve!

Other than that...

I can only imagine the screw-ups, sometimes expensive, that Tarman and Curley's crew made. Thank God we didn't have social media back then. LOL

Curley didn't do enough to keep the facilities updated, didn't raise enough money and ticket prices enough to keep us competitive financially with top programs, didn't (apparently) have a plan for the obvious jump in coaching and staffing expenses that would occur when Joe and his coaching staff left, didn't bank or invest the money he saved by Joe taking a salary far below market, devised and bungled the whole STEP rollout years too late, and it's all Sandy's fault for trying to address all of those issues?

But it sure as Hell kept tuitions affordable to working people like my parents. WTF do we have now? Law school like tuitions.

It likely comes from the Neanderthals who can't accept that we have a woman or a lesbian as AD.
Art and norm don't strike me as that type. I think they're both just really, I don't know, parsimonious?

So how is she addressing the issues? She rolls our a twenty year plan where facilities for the sports that pay the freight for the rest of the athletic department aren't addressed until the far end. Positively ****ing brilliant!

Don't have a problem spending money. Wanna renovate/replace the Beav? Why haven't you started already? Replace Bryce Jordan? Fine by me.

But what gets teed up first? What in it's present rendition looks like a very expensive natatorium. Well over 500,000 square feet of training practice facilities for non-revenue sports (those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it), and a large indoor tennis facility. Seriously?
