If you had your choice which one would you take. This is a tough one, for me anyways. They are very similar but here is how I break it down.
Carter ran behind the best OL Penn State probably ever had. The holes he ran thru were huge. But here is an observation, after Carter left, next season 1995 they had the same great line, but good RB's like Archie and Pitts could not come close to doing what Carter did. And Carter was faster than Barkley, as far as break away speed goes. As fast as Barkley is, I've seen him get caught from behind a few times on long runs where Carter would have never got caught.
Barkley still has probably two great years left, because I'm sure he will be entering the NFL after his junior year. Even with just one year, I think you could see enough of his ability to compare them. Barkley I think is more elusive, and has the quickest burst thru the hole. (On the rare occasions there was a hole).
