SB Nation Kent St Preview

Kent had a kid die in practice in June of 2017. The S&C coach lied about his credentials to get the job. While Kent has had a lot of problems, that was a heck of a blow to the program.

I missed that story. In this day and age, how could a university not better vet someone's credentials?

This reminds of a story my dad told me. He was an executive in a chemical company in the mid-'70s, and the company hired a guy at a similar level. The guy claimed to have received a Ph.D. under a world-renown researcher and claimed many other technical accomplishments. Very soon after joining the company, he raised suspicions, as he seemed to lack even a fundamental understanding of chemistry. After a few months, the company finally looked into him and found out that he lied about his Ph.D. He never even enrolled at the school in question. To make matters worse, he was a drunk who frequently showed up at meetings blitzed. He obviously was canned.

Kent's new coach might be a very good one. He took the job very late (i forget when offhand... January?) but, amazingly, turned MAC's worst recruiting class into the 5th best. A former 4-star, Auburn QB and a couple/few similarly un-Kent-like transfers... He takes over a team in a heckuva hole, but he seems like a huge improvement.

Kent's D has been pretty good against Penn State the last few games (Barkley 22 carries for 105 yards) but their offense is pitiful. Maybe the new coach can put together an offense.

The Kent State game is on my birthday.
I expect PSU to put up a score equal to my age, and that also being the margin of victory.
So, ahhh, errr, hmmm.... 38ish. o_O No? 41ish?
Come on.... give a farte d'olde a break. ;)

As a long-suffering Kent fan (1985->), i have to hope for good plays, not upsets, against Penn State. I'm still a little hoarse from seeing Kent's gunner drill punt receiver Calvin Lowry for fumble and TD. Kent led 10-0!
Too bad QB Josh Cribbs left early w a sprained ankle. That game might have been interesting... but...not...
