Trying to pass the time while watching the MD game. I need a new set of hiking boots for grouse hunting and around the house. I want good ankle support for the mountains. Came across a brand called SCARPA with good reviews on Zappos. Anyone here had any experience.? Current boots are worn out Solomon’s.

Grouse? Do you actually have some in your area? They are practically extinct in my neck of the woods. They say West Nile virus is the culprit. I've got to think predators are also a factor as they are ground nesters.

Fancy eye-talian stuff. Famed alpine hiking wear. Can’t offer any thoughts on grouse hunting use, but good luck.

Not here in my neck of woods Lancaster county, but I hunt north central PA, upper NH, and a little in Maine. West Nile, predators, and some recent wet springs have taken their toll. Still finding birds, but I have to put 10+ miles per day. Last year I saw more birds than the previous two years combined. So many factors that have disrupted their historical population curve, but I personally believe the wet springs have really been the biggest culprit here in Pa. The eggs and chicks don’t have a chance.

Those are good. I have Lowa’s. Excellent hiking boots and broken in after 5 minutes

I own two pairs of Scarpa boots. They’re the absolute best, IMO. I own an all leather pair for heavier hiking and backpacking and a fabric/gore-tex pair for lighter trekking.

They’re comfortable (they will need to break in) and extremely well made.

What other questions do you have?

I was going for the really Groussy look so I went with the Fairgambit "Uplanders". Very pricey but they still look as good as the day I got them ....

Looking at the Lowas as well as the ASOLO”s which I had very good experience with. These boot manufacturers a adding in very contrasting colors for some reason on a lot of there boots. Guess it is for metro-lumberjack crowd that will never leave a sidewalk?

I have the first one at my camp in three years. The thing follows me everywhere. It drives me crazy unless I have people there as the novelty has warn off for me.

I didn't like the boots from the brand SCARPA. My sole came off very quickly on these boots. I was very surprised because the sole came off in almost two weeks. Also, the nose on these Boots was destroyed. These shoes should have lasted at least two years for that kind of money. Well, anyway...
After this incident, I bought work boots on rockroosterfootwear.com for $99. It's been 4 months, and these shoes look new, although they go through a lot of stress and strain every day.
Let's see in the end how long they will last. I really hope that this brand will not disappoint me either.

I’ve had a pair for 10 years…fit like a glove from the get go. Soles are still holding up, have put in better insoles twice. The Italians do boots right. I have Lowas as well…they are not as comfortable due to a high instep…but they are good looking.
