It is almost mid November. Is there news on the team. Are the practicing? What is the schedule and starters? Thank you.

LOL, starters and schedule? LOL
I am sure they are practicing, many have been or will be in NLWC Rokfin matches.

And just to be clear, I have less than zero inside knowledge, just limited expectation to hear something. Though I would love to know more.

I do think Casey sent out an email saying they were finally in Rec Hall and practicing, but I could be wrong.

I’ll take a crack at the starter question. There’s a lot of uncertainty and unanswered questions regarding starters. Questions initially revolved around who was redshirting, with speculation around a bunch of redshirts. After the NCAA ruled this would be a free year for winter athletes, Cael mentioned in an interview that he’d expect all teams would put their best team out this year. There’s also uncertainty about certain wrestlers being completely healthy, as well as some speculation about some wrestlers possibly changing weight. Based on all this uncertainty, the best guess I’d have is:

125 Robbie Howard (if healthy)
133 RBY (his tweet about 141 was a joke)
141 Nick Lee
149 Bartlett? Good thread/read on 149
157 Berge (if healthy)
165 Joe Lee
174 Carter Starocci
184 Brooks
197 Michael Beard
Hwt Kerkvliet

I believe the most uncertainty is around 125, 149, and 157. And anyone switching weights can cause a rippling of changes. I’d suggest reading the thread about a poll about who goes 149, it’s a good read and has some real good info. Also, understand that our staff is pretty tight lipped, and haven’t had any discussions yet about starters. So for most of us, this is mostly speculation.

Good god, if I had to lay money on likelihood of a national title, RBY is 5th, 5TH, on my list (Kerkvliet, Starocci, Brooks in whatever order you want, Nick Lee a hair ahead of RBY).

Maestro, play me something FUN!

Starocci ahead of Lee & RBY? I'm really high on Starocci as everyone else is, but he hasn't yet faced the caliber of opponents that Lee & RBY have faced and beaten. Now--if/when he beats Kemerer, I'll be there!

Kind of hard to have a schedule when we don't even know if there will be a season. They have been practicing. Others have done their best to project starters but at several weights the starter probably won't be determined until the season starts and even then could change after that. IMHO, 125, 149, 157, 165, and 285 don't have anyone as a certain starter, although Kerkvliet performances to date certainly make him look like the front runner at 285.

If u are waiting to see him beat Kemerer before u buy in to the Carter = probable national champ belief that is the equivalent of saying i am waiting until I know for sure.

Hi Tom! Thanks for this research challenge! I love to compare the 'caliber' of opponents in different weight classes

Let's unpack a bit. You said of RBY & Lee "have faced and beaten." When you added the "beaten", it makes the "have face" moot--we don't have to look up or compare in this case, the caliber of opponents those guys have faced & lost to.

RBY's Best Wins:
Desanto: R12 / 6th / Covid2020
Pletcher: R16 & Covid2020 at 141; 4 / 4 at 133
Phillippi: R12 / Covid2020

Nick Lee's Best AA Wins:
McKenna: 3 / R12 / 3 / 2 (1-3 alltime vs)
Kevin Jack: 5 / R12 / 3 / 6
Pletcher: R16 & Covid2020 at 141; 4 / 4 at 133 (1-1 alltime vs)
Chad Red: 7 / 8 / Covid2020
Mitch McKee: R12 / R12 / 6 / Covid2020
Tommy Thorn: R16 / 8 / InjNQ / R12
Kyle Shoop: 7
Saderrian Perry: 8

Starocci's best win was probably last month, when he mat-wiped 1x AA Devin Skatzka in freestyle.

I don't have any analysis and am out of steam.

In regard to Starroci’s national title chances, does anyone know if Mekhi Lewis plans on wrestling this year and if he’ll be at 165 or 174? I think if he’s at 174 he’s more of a title favorite than anyone.

it looks like Mekhi is going 74 kg for the RTC cup— I assume he intends to compete at Olympic trials at the same weight. i’m sure it’s possible that he could move up to make room in the roster, but I would guess he goes 165
