and pulls up. Right around the 5:08 mark, first play after Penn State kicks off after going up 38-31. Has Houston for a sack and pulls up. What happened there?

Ok, didn't see the discussion and thought there would be some. Maybe he took the little pass fake, looks like a little dive tackle at the legs and he would have sacked him easily.

My guess is that he thought that Houston had actually thrown the ball when he "pump faked". Considering that a late hit out of bounds and a roughing a passer penalty had already been called in the game. I'm guessing that he thought better to be safe than sorry.

Frustrating but tough to blame the kid.

Clearly thought Houston had actually thrown the ball (could not see ball as he was chasing and closing in from behind), but again, it was pretty obvious that he thought Houston had gotten rid of the ball so did not hit him......that is what a defender is supposed to do once a QB throws the ball unlike what the Wisconsin defender did in continuing his hit even after it was beyond obvious that TM had gotten rid of the ball (not only continued to hit him immediately after he threw the ball, but rode him for at least 10 yards including 5 yards past the OB stripe and topped it off by shoving him on the ground when he got off him after riding him unnecessarily for 10 yards, instead of relenting, including well after both players had gone OB)....which is why the Wisconsin defender was called for a 15-Yard PF of "Unnecessary Roughness" and legitimately so.

I took a second look at it also, and from what I saw, it appears that Evan is certain that Houston is going to throw the ball away, and he pulls up to avoid a flag for roughing the passer. I am certain of it.

Yes, he went for the fake and pulled up to avoid a late hit penalty. On the very next play he hit Houston just after he had released the ball. Wasn't going to get fooled twice. Also, liked the play where Schwan thought he had stripped the ball from the UW runner and was looking for it on the ground.

Allow me to add that on the Bell strip sack of Houston, Torrence Brown tipped the ball with his left hand as he was on the turf, if he tips if just a few inches to the other side and it bounces back toward Sickels, that's a touchdown. He tipped it back toward Houston who fell on it. That close...

It was strange to see, and there's been some discussion of it. Trying to avoid a penalty, I believe, and was a mistake not to make the tackle.
I agree Roy. He looked as if he thought Houston was going to throw the ball, and didn't want to risk a roughing the passer penalty.
