Season Parking Pass...

Received my tickets today and my assigned lot is out by the hospital. For years I have parked at the IM fields and met up with my daughter and her friends for tailgating and I am not happy about moving. Anyone know if there is any hope of getting it changed?

Since passes were issued based on seniority and standing based on NLC points there would be an uproar if the ticket office starting shuffling lot assignments other than the handicap lots.
Did you receive the lot you selected when your assigned time for order arrived? I’m wondering why your just finding out which lot your parking in this year.

The other lots are sold out. Either donate more so next year so you can choose the IM lot or buy a pass in that lot off one of the many resale sites.

Only other choice is to buy a lot 11 pass for each game, since it is close to IM fields and try to sell your season lot.

OK, now I'm even more lost. I have a lot of points, choose my seats early (4 of them) and I never saw anything about parking lot selection. I just pulled out my season ticket renewal which I did back in January and the only think I see next to the line that says 2019 FB Season Parking is YELL18 GA07 21-21. Am I supposed to know that will put me out in lot 33?

You should have gotten an email a couple months ago for times for parking lot selection. Is your active email address the one you have on your NLC account?

It’s a shit show but there was a letter in January about parking selection. All that is left is lot 11 and lot 24. 11 is behind the arboretum and 24 is halfway to toftrees. You aren’t going to be able to switch with the ticket office, you’ll have to sell yours and buy someone else’s. It’s gonna be a dick punch when we see how empty these “sold out” lots are on game day.

I’m just looking forward to IM lot not causing the huge cluster it did on Park and Atherton with 4000 cars hoping to get in a 2000 space lot.

So did the lots open today.....?

They actually closed, since you mention it. All lots on campus (save a few like Red A across from rec hall) changed to 24/7 permit parking on July 1. No free parking after 5, no parking on weekends. Same with the parking decks. They say this is because people who have these permits show up to work on the weekend and their lot is completely full. Dubious, but maybe. Then they announce in the same announcement that you can purchase a nights and weekend parking pass, effectively calling out their lie one paragraph later. Just another erosion in the town and gown relationship.

The article also mentioned maintenance costs of decks. I think I read somewhere new Deck that will be built is over $30M+. Aren’t there 4 other decks and shitload of lots? Why should anyone be allowed to park for free? Better people using lots have to pay than using tuition dollars?

So called them this morning and they told me that I was sent email notifications several months ago but they can see that they were never opened. She said sometimes providers like "f-ing" (added for emphasis) Comcast block bulk emails so I probably never got it. I have looked through my entire inbox and I do not have it. She said, sorry, nothing we can do, next year you'll know to look for it! I'm thinking, look for what, an email that never gets to me....I'm very pissed.

There's a green season parking on the ticket exchange. Not sure where that puts you.

There was a statecollege.com article this week that kind of hit on this. The township had basically given penn state all this land very cheaply, and had kept hotel tax rates low to help out penn state (town & gown) since penn state gave back with parking, use of rec hall/IM building, tennis courts, hosting the fireworks. Now that penn state shut off use of everything to the locals, and said "nope, can't even park here" the township has said eff you guys also and raised the hotel tax from the 2nd lowest in the state, to the highest allowed by law in PA (and they're trying to get that raised).

Edit: I see norm posted it while I was typing about it

I got a letter in the mail about it. I guess they didn't have my email address?

I got both e-mails and mailed letters about parking selection. They had articles on the Official website and in several papers. They posted it on the social media sites. There were several threads on here about it. I don't think they could have done anything more.

I went into the office there to get a 2019 football poster (they were out) and there is one secretary who sits there and just catches hell all day on her phone line. It’s understandable why the lady in that seat is different every season.

The article sounded like a huge whine fest and a pity me party...I hate to break it to them but without the university there would be no events to park at in state college. With out the university there would be a lot of unused land in state college bringing in little or no tax money. It ridiculous to say is getting little back from the university now that they can't park for free. If they can't see the benefits of the university I suggest they drive to a town like Clearfield or Dubois. Maybe think of when they are shopping at Wegmans or seeing a concert at BJC, or eating at a nice restaurant because without the university they would probably have to drive two hours to do that.

That's kind of the point. Penn State is going to do whatever they can to maximize their money, so the town is saying ok, we'll raise our hotel tax (includes air bnbs and such) to the max. They're also making sure that PSU doesn't get that west entrance to campus by where OW Houts used to be. Penn State owns the land, but the township is saying hell no to the use of the road.

Maybe you've checked your spam but if you haven't, look there. I get your frustration and agree the university deserves criticism for a lot of things but the lot selection process was publicized beforehand. IIRC, I even received my lot selection time via USPS in addition to the email. Hopefully next year the bugs will be worked out.

Create a gmail account and change your NLC email address to the gmail account, if your ISP blocked your email.

Yep, read article and it was on point in many regards. Still don't think anyone should get free use on campus for facilities that have cost to maintain, even if people piss and whine about town and gown. Students get shouldered with those costs if there are free services because no where else the money is coming from. Hell, $6 a month seems like a great deal to park evenings and weekends. Couple hours a few times a month in deck or a paystation can add up to more than $6 real quick. And why should gym on campus be free to public?

Now we all get to pay more for everything - Hotels, parking etc - nice that TV’s keep getting cheaper and better to watch at home - they better move forward with shrinking seating capacity at the Beav because there will be less and less people going as costs and inconvenience (RV and car parking) keep getting worse for the average fan - it will hit a breaking point on cost versus value for many more people real soon.

And PSU SHOULD get access to millions of dollars worth of municipal resources? For free?

It goes both ways Slugger. Right?

Never said that. I was addressing people complaining about not having free stuff on campus. University, even with everything it brings to area should be paying at a minimum a fairer share. Of course that is not how things work for big biz, which is pretty much what Penn State is these days.

For free ya say? Residents are paying for Atherton to be damn near undriveable due to construction from 2016-2021 because of university traffic. But, as you know, they stop construction on football weekends. Maybe they should keep it one lane total (that is, one side goes, while the other waits for 10 minutes) during a football weekend and let PSU handle all the complaints.

If you don't know how to get to your parking lot, you don't deserve parking passes to begin with.

All the roads become one way 4 hours before game time. People will learn but sucks if your hotel is on the wrong side of where you need to be.

Maybe if SCB wouldn't have given in to the College Heights folks Atherton would not be the road taking 100% of the daily traffic abuse. And damn that University for giving people a reason to actually live in Happy Valley and allowing housing prices to be inflated more than they are really worth.

State College isn't that big of a town though. Short of having to come in via Atherton/Park, the other entrances are all right off 322.
