SIAP - Bo Pipher commits to PSU wrestling

Another Bo, and another non-PA wrestler. CS and staff never cease to surprise us. ;)

Reached the round of 16 at this past year's Super 32 at 138. Beat Dylan Chatterton (PA 3rd) 4-2, lost to Shane Griffith (2x NJ State Champ) 9-1 & Ryan Ford (OH 4th) 9-7 to exit the tournament.

BrucePa, no. This kid will not beat the Lee brothers coming.

There is also something too be said that when these guys are in college and certainly when they land post college that their PSU/wrestling/Cael experience helps too spread the gospel. Colorado, Utah, CA, Texas, NJ, etc it all helps too build the brand.

We obviously want studs, but we need too times as many high character and high academic room guys as stud wrestlers too balance the program out. Doing that might be just as hard as luring the studs wrestlers in.

Cool. Need some immediate depth at 157. Joe Lee still has two years of HS and Manville will always be a transfer risk.

I just found it interesting that PSU commit Luke Gardner was in Chatterton's bracket. Chatterton won in SV 3-1.

Colorado apparently not considered high-level competition, but I bet Cael liked his pinning %.
Who knows, may turn out to be a steal.
Cael knows this kid has a very high ceiling and knows when he gets in the room for a year he will be really good !!!!

I'm wondering why the late commit. Any one know if he had other offers?

Even though he wrestled in Colorado, I've got to think there were a few other schools interested.

Could it be they and Cael were waiting for Lee's decision to see how much money we could offer.

A little premature to write this kid off as a potential starter don't you think? At Super 32 he beat Chatterton in the wrestle backs who finished 3rd at AAA PIAAs this year.

Yeah I wouldn't be so quick to say he'll never start. The Lees will be tough as well and I'm grateful for any kid coming into the program. There have been some fine Coloradan wrestlers of late (Buraks, Finesilvers)

Colorado 11th on list for 2016 NCAA Championships qualifiers with 9, tied for 8th with 3 All-Americans.

I spit my lunch on my screen reading this! Two many lawls!

Nothing against Chatterton, but we'd all bet he would get bonused by the 3rd placer one weight lighter.

That would be Sasso, who IIRC one of the Lee brothers beat.

Of course projections are just that. Some meet, some don't, some exceed. Pipher seems to be worth the shot.

Chatterton did beat Luke Gardner. Will be interesting to see were Gardner and Pipher are in a few years.

Nothing against anyone. My post was merely in response to the one that said Pipher would NOT beat Lee either of the Lee's which I said was premature. Do you disagree?

None of us has a crystal ball. Even though some kids jump out at us early, some kids jump out late. Maybe the light comes on late for Bo Pipher (even though he's had success). Maybe the difference is coaching. Maybe the difference is environment (room, teammates, etc). I would never put down a young man's dream regarding the most important decision he has made in his life. His story is unwritten, and that is part of the attraction for me with collegiate wrestling. No one in 2008 when they were recruited would ever have predicted that ER would end up with more titles than DT, and be on the same team!! All of us know how crazy life was between 18 and 22. That's why I support them all. You never know.

I have seen him wrestle and he is the real deal. Opposing coaches rave about the kid. The town I live in competes against Paonia every year. Colorado has 4 classes for wrestling and 2A is the smallest. There are only around 55 to 60 schools competing in each of the 4 groups. So winning a state title in CO is nothing like winning in CA, NJ, OH, or PA. It can be watered down. But Pipher competed in tournaments against good wrestlers from higher classes and obviously did fine (probably the best guy at 145 in the state including all groups). He will work hard and at a minimum be a quality person in the room making everyone around him better. But he has the attitude of a kid that wants to succeed and it would not surprise me if he found a way into the starting lineup . You cannot win without good quality depth and he will provide that. He reminds of a kid that was our school's only 3 time state champ. He went on to be a two time all-American at Division II (2nd and 4th) at Western State. And he held his own in against Division I competition in the Midlands.
