would create a place for Charlie on staff. Charlie might have been unsuccessful as a Head Coach, but he is an excellent positional coach and could really help Pry.

How about Pry going to S. Fla., and Charlie Strong becoming our DC ( not meant to be a criticism of Pry ).

Hire him as a consultant/analyst, assuming that Nick Lou doesn't make a better offer.
i wonder if this is the area CJF wants more money for, not necessarily the full time coaches, but rather to have more/better (and thus higher paid) analyst etc.
But it also seems as though Nick likes to bring in guys getting paid from someplace else, which leads me to ask, is Charlie still owed money from his last stop.

USF owes Strong money. How much is shrouded in mystery because part, the larger part, of his deal is with a private foundation. Estimates range between half a mil and $4.5mil.

So, I am assuming the consultants cannot recruit, or have any input in the recruiting process?
I believe you are correct, plus they can not be on the field during practice to coach.

Like it, but never happens.

Before I pull the trigger on that try to understand what has gone wrong for Charlie in his last two gigs. Has he lost his touch with defensive coaching? Concern you want to alleviate. Would want to vet that out.

They can't recruit or coach the players (no coaching related contact with players or recruits). But they can certainly evaluate recruits on tape and offer their input.

If by input, you mean evaluation of prospects, there are no restrictions. Consultants can't communicate with or visit recruits off-campus. On-campus? Iffy.

It would be quite a coup to get a guy of his stature.

Doesn’t matter...two weeks after we hired him posters on here would want him fired.

Smith? That's not going to happen.

But Charlie Strong would be a major addition, even though Pry is very good. If PSU (or UM) could get him, they should try. He'd go a long way in the recruiting battles with OSU and he'd be a solid DC. [EDIT: two MNCs as DC for Florida] I also understand he's great from a culture perspective. He'd help UM more than us. And who knows if Don Brown is seriously in contention at BC.

He won't be job hunting for long. IMHO, we don't want the Michigan weirdo to get Charlie Strong.
