Don't remember if this was posted prior to the first game, but anybody coming up on 322 -
Drivers traveling to State College from the east on Route 322 before Saturday's Temple vs. Penn State game may encounter slow traffic near Seven Mountains in Spring Mills on their way and again on their way back afterward.
Through the rest of September, motorists will encounter lane closures on 322 eastbound and westbound at the Sand Mountain Road intersection just west of Seven Mountains for road work on the second phase of PennDOT's Potters Mills Gap project. The going could be slow during high-volume traffic periods.
"This configuration will be in place for the Sept. 17 Penn State home football game and motorists should give themselves extra travel time to and from that event," stated a release from PennDOT.
The intersection is about 15 miles from Beaver Stadium.
The project include roadway widening on Route 322, a new interchange at Sand Mountain Road and acceleration and deceleration lanes to Sand Mountain Road and Sand Crest Road. After the end of the month the work is not expected to impact traffic.
The first phase of the project involved construction of a new bridge at Sand Mountain Road. The third phase will include reconstruction of 322 from Sand Mountain Road to Potters Mills, with a new intersection at 322 and Route 144. Once completed, the project is expected to reduce traffic congestion and alleviate access concerns.
