PSU Men's Lax scores their 2nd ever (and back-to-back) win over Johns Hopkins 20-9 in University Park earlier today. With the win, No. 1 PSU is 4-0 in B1G play with only Rugters remaining next weekend. I believe that PSU has secured the No. 1 seed in the conference tourney. A bit of angst in my household since my wife went to Hopkins for undergrad. ;-) Go State!

It's been 25 years since any team has scored 20 goals on Hopkins. The ESPN announcing team heaped tons of praise on PSU, saying they should be the odds on favorite to win the NCAAs.

That was a beat down. Made Hopkins look like rubbish . . . Or are they rubbish?

Can’t overlook Rutgers next week, but the B1G tourney will be challenging. That said, the team is really clicking at this point, which is where you want to be at the end of the season.

Only loss this season (knock on wood) is a one-point game to last year's National Champ Yale. Would be great to win the conference tourney this year (and keep momentum going), but more importantly the National Championship! Go State!

I didn't see it, but a win by 11 over Hopkins is certainly impressive. This Penn State team really can score goals.

It is a bit of both. Hopkins is not good this year--probably one of the worst Hopkins squads I have ever seen. But at the same time, Penn State made Hopkins look silly. Penn State has as good of a chance as anyone to win it all this year, but there are about 5 or 6 teams who have a legitimate chance this year.

We clinched the #1 seed for B1G, there is nothing to overlook the game is rather meaningless.

The team isn’t taking that approach, I imagine, but its likely Rutgers will be the 4 seed so we will play them to start B1Gs and that is the game that shouldn’t be overlooked.

There are no meaningless games at this point in the season.

The old every game is a must win mentality. This game is as close as you can ever get to a meaningless game. Lose and we'd still hold the #1 seed in the Big Ten tournament. Even if we were to drop from being #1 in the national polls and lose our hold on the overall #1 seed in the NCAAs, we'd gain it right back by winning the Big Ten Tournament. Those are the games that matter, not the one against Rutgers. It's just not worth risking injury to our stars. We need to keep the bigger picture in mind.

So you're okay going into the B1G tourney and ultimately NCAA's fresh off of a loss to Rutgers. Alright, but that's not going to happen because Tambroni would not be okay with that.

I'm interested in seeing how aggressive Rutgers is against our team ... especially since they'll most likely be playing us again in the first round of the B1G Tournament

Remember PSU lost to Yale by 1 goal, so they can never, ever be ranked no. 1.

Said no one, ever.

From March:

That's not really a great fact. All it tells me is that (i) we scheduled a bunch of candyass games early on and ran up the score and (ii) we have a one-dimensional offense. Thankfully, all the other teams do the same thing.

We are tied for most top 5 wins, tied in second for most top 20 wins.

The "one-dimensional" offense just hung 20 on Hopkins, the first time any team has in 25 years.

Yale is going to be a tough out for anyone. They have the premiere face-off guy in the country in TD Ierlan, who wins at an unbelievable almost 80% rate (and second isn't even close to him). If you can't get the ball, you have a hard time scoring. Our guy, Gerard Arceri, is rated 9th in the NCAAs at 64%, but in our game against Yale, Arceri could only win four of 27 face-offs against Ierlan. We don't want to face him again.

What I said before was this, and it still applies:
"I hope at the end of the season you're right, and PSU is the greatest team ever and they win the tournament and Ament has 100+ assists. But I've learned to be skeptical of early-season results against uneven competition. You can get as excited as you want now, though."

I am happy, but not that excited about the win against Hopkins. Maryland and Ohio State were better.

You guys who think that PSU should throw the game against Rutgers next week and then will walk right through the B1G tourney and NCAAs are totally delusional.

What's our scale of delusional here? Like when you said that we had a weak schedule or when you said the offense was one dimensional?

We are giving you shit because you've had bad takes all year about the MLAX team, your latest "can't overlook Rutgers this week" is the latest example that doesn't make sense; that game doesn't affect a whole heck of a lot. The B1G first round against RU is the game they shouldn't overlook.

When I said that, the schedule consisted of 4 games, two of which were against Stony Brook and RMU. You consider that non-weak?

Currently, the attack has 97 assists and Ament owns 63 of them. How far would this team go without Ament?

You think Tambroni is going to treat the upcoming Rutgers game as a throw-away?

That's actually not true, you said that after the Crown event. At that point, we had played Nova, Yale, Penn, and Cornell. We went 3-1, all are ranked in the RPI. 4 of our 7 games, at that point, were against current top 15 RPI teams.

In lacrosse you have different player-types, just like any sport, Ament fits that feeder role very very well so that's why you see him with 2/3rd of our assists. I would be more concerned if we weren't scoring on 43% of shots and/or not 11-1.

I am not going to speak to what Tambroni is going to/will do. You were trying to express that Rutgers game had some significance, which I pointed out it doesn't since we already clinched the #1 seed and we will likely be playing RU in the first round anyway.

Just stop, enjoy our success, and don't be such a curmudgeon. I promise the games will be even more fun to watch if you aren't looking for something to bitch about.

C'mon, bro, since the game has no significance, that means he'll treat it as a throw-away, right?
