Early today the Ukies again attacked a Russian base on Russian soil with the long-range, American-supplied ATACM missile system and now comes a reported U.S. intelligence assessment that Moscow is preparing to again use its new high-tech intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) in a possible response. I mean, if the Rooskies hit Kiev with that weapon, we'll immediately be in a new ballgame. See link below.
But whether they target Kiev or not, this is another step down a 3-year escalatory path. There are apparently forces in our government wanting to leave Trump a fixed deck of cards before he walks back in the White House. They can't take any chances that he'd do something crazy like, you know, seek to end this madness before every Ukrainian male between the ages of 18-35 has either been killed, maimed, or escaped the country.
Meanwhile, in a presumably unrelated and bizarre turn of events, New Jersey lawmakers are asking the state's Governor to declare a state of emergency in connection with an increasingly frequent series of unidentified and unexplained drone sightings over New Jersey locations in recent weeks. This appears to be a serious issue...not a few nuts calling stuff in...and it is being treated with seriousness. The FBI, Homeland Security, and Congress have all been brought into the picture but no answers have been forthcoming as the sightings spread to the vicinities of New York City and Philadelphia.
An FBI official in charge of investigating the situation had this to say: “Are we concerned there are nefarious intentions that could cause either an actual security or public safety incident? There’s nothing that is known that would lead me to say that, but we just don’t know. And that’s the concerning part of it.” Well that's reassuring.
