I guess the good news is that Miller and Gross-Matos give them two strong starters.
The bad news is they really have only Joseph and Toney to rotate in. Depending on how serious Simmons' injury is, they're going to have to find some depth either from the true freshmen or by moving over Givens. They certainly can't lose any more DEs at this point. Franklin's very positive statement on the group is good. It is a good solid two-deep. Maybe Oweh can play enough to supply some depth.

We’ll be fine. I got impression from twitter that Simmon’s injury is not that serious. With Givens ability to slide over it still gives us 4 quality DE’s without including Joesph and the promising freshmen. Tarburton looked like a beast in the BW game but I’d rather he redshirt.

My daughter's good friend is dating Joseph at PSU. Seems like a great kid and I'm glad he will get some more PT, although not happy how it is happening (injuries).

Simmons hinted on social media it wasn't that serious.

Until there isn’t a “next man” :)

This brought back a pleasant memory. While at Dear Old State, on several occasions I dreamt that injuries were taking it's toll on our players. There's Joe walking the sideline looking into the student section surveying the students and he points....at me!

I point at my chest quizzically and mouth, "Me?" Joe nods yes and waves with his finger & hand get down here!

I run down the stadium steps and over the railing and run to Joe, "Yes coach?" He puts his hands on my shoulders and says, "Can you run 60 yards and run into somebody? Hard?" In his nasal Brooklyn accent.

"Sure!" I replied excitedly. "Go suit up fast," he tells me. Off I run with an equipment manager to the locker room.

I get a uniform on #99 and get my lane assignment from the special teams coach my heart beating like a rabbit and run down the field and take out a blocker. I was too pumped up to feel pain and be hurt.

I would end up making a diving leg tackle later in the game and hear the stadium announcer say, "Tackle by number 99," but my name is not announced.

After the game Joe comes over and says, "Hey kid you done good. What's your name?" I tell him my name and he pats me on the shoulder and begins to walk away. I ask, "Coach, am I on the team?" He looks, smiles and said, "We got kids coming back I think we're good." Seeing my disappointment he says, "But be ready. You never know."

And I'd usually wake up then.

Great story!
btw, I think I do remember an anonymous #99 making a tackle. ;)

With the new rules, he can play four games and keep his redshirt.

If they don’t count my 4 year’s in Blue Band, I’m still eligible. And unfortunately, right now Iweight as much as a PSU LB.

I’m trying to work my way down to LB weight. Right now I’m probably strong side DE.
